Does anyone know of a company making an N scale farming combine? I'm modeling a farm and soy bean field. I need a combine to have working out in the field.
GHQ makes a wheat combine and a harvester http://www.nscalesupply.com/GHQ/GHQ-54-009.html http://www.nscalesupply.com/GHQ/GHQ-54-008.html and DPM supplies them as part of their Olsen Feed's & Larsen's Implement kit. http://www.nscalesupply.com/DPM/DPM-661.html
Or you can go to your local Wally World and pick up the one offered in the Mini Machines series. Only cost 3 bucks and is painted in John Deere green.
COMBINES WHat era are you modeling? The GHQ models date from a late model John Deere with a small grain head that would be ideal for a modern farm to the old pull type that was used back in the late thirties to maybe around 1960. If you use the pulltype you will need an old tractor to pull it!The Olsens Feed combines are 60s era Case model combines with wheat reels that arent exactly suitable for soybeans but would be ok. Also Kibri makes a late model combine that has a grain head with a soybean reel modeled after a Claas combine. I have all of these and believe they are all fine machines. Depends on the era you model. At some point in time I will have an extensive number of farm scenes that I will post pictures of in railimages. yes, I am a farmer and have operated combines for years.:dog:
I'm modeling the turn of the century... the 21st century! So anything late 90's to present works. Checked my Wal mart today and came up empty. I'll check our meijer store (similar to a super walmart).
Kibri makes a nice modern one, but Euro prototype: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/405-19000 http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/405-19001
Very nice! but there is no way I'm dropping $56 on a little combine! I have a micro trains one on the way for $3. That will hold the place till I get the GHQ.
http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/405-19001 Walthers imports a Kibri Lexion model. They may also have some Challenger models. The Cat Challengers were introduced about 10yrs ago. Ertl made diecast models of them, along with other items. You may find them on *bay.
If you're wondering what it looks like, Ken Jones has a picture posted here with it: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/attachment.php?attachmentid=1482&d=1161401925
From the best N scale photo thread. http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/attachment.php?attachmentid=1482&d=1161401925
Here's a shot of the combine on it's own. Sorry it's a bit fuzzy. They are made by a company called TOY ZONE. the boxes are different colors, (red, blue, green, yellow) and they are called MINI MACHINES. Actually, the funny thing is, i don't really know why i bought it. I don't have any farmland on our layout, and the link to the other pic the guys posted has the combine just sitting on the grass near the grain elevator. Oh well, guess it's just for show anyways.
