First off, do not misunderstand. I love Atlas!!! Its just that I got to lookin at my new GTW geeps. Is it my ignorance, or are they numbered wrong? Mine are in the 6000s. Shouldn't they be in the 4000s? My resouces all point to the 4000 number series. I tried to post on the Atlas site but my password was deemed invalid. Will try again in a couple days. Regardless, it is extremely cool for Atlas to have painted anything in GTW! Go Atlas!!!
I used to run on the old DT&I, and used 4000 class GP'9's from the GTW. GP'7's in the 6000 class may have been a renumbering of ex-DT&I units, but I am not sure. 6000's were GP38's and GP40's when I was there. I'll be curious to see what you find out too.
Me too, Me too. A quick google found: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=17598 Sheesh, you guys are fast! 7 minutes. Oh well, Least I played.
The numbers are not wrong , when the GT took over the DT&I and the D&TS they added the 6 in front of the numbers series Being the DT&I had 3 numbers already the GT only had to add the 6 to it, but the D&TS only had 2 numbers so they had add a 60 to the numbers series. 6046 was a D&TS gp 7 its number under the old paint scheme was 46.
Here is a link to a D&TS GP7 #43 http://rr-fallenflags.org/misc-d/dts43bds.jpg Here is another link to a repainted unit. http://rr-fallenflags.org/gtw/gtw6049ads.jpg
These are indeed ex D&TS units. I had confirmed this with Cory at Atlas back when they were first announced. Just got mine from Feather River a couple days ago - very nice. D&TS #47 was still in service on the Notheastern Indiana RR until about a year ago when it was sold. It still wore the D&TS nickel plate inspired colors and was patched for the IN RR. Now who wants to see D&TS units from Atlas in the near future to go with their excellent new D&TS cabooses?
It will not be until next year when they rerun the GP7 again in N scale and also might depend on the sale's of the N scale caboose. They did announce the D&TS in HO scale for later .
Ah ha! It was my ignorance then indeed. I too thought it unlikely for Atlas not to do their homework. Thank you fellas! I feel better now. Hmmm, lets see. Atlas did D&TSL cabeese in TWO numbers. Gee, could the locos be next. YA THINK????? Go Atlas! Gotta hangup and get to the Livonia show now...
The 47 is now owned by Indiana Boxcar. I made some inquiries about buying it, but they want a bit more than we are willing to pay. I was disappointed that Atlas chose the GT scheme instead of the D&TSL for the GP7. I would have been game for 1 or 2.
BnOEngrRick - If you are interested in the D&TSL Gp7s, I would suggest dropping Atlas a note. The more interest the better in helping to get some done. I will be good for some if they do. I picked up the cabooses so hopefully they are doing ok sales wise. GTW D&TSL and DT&I are all underepresented roads in N scale. The few items made in these roads tend to get top dollar on the auction site, which IMHO might indicate a pent up demand.
