Just a question about using tranz 06, can you use this as a layout design tool? I have fiddled about with the program but have found it difficult to design exactly to scale and within the area I have avaliable for my layout. Is there a way of simulating bench work etc? Cheers Ken.
Ken, i'm moving this topic to the layout design forum where hopefully you will get an appropriate answer
We had a presentation on Trainz at the September club meeting, and apparently, yes it can be used to design a layout. Pretty much everything is customizable. However, I have no hands-on experience doing this, as I am still waiting for the Mac OSX version...! Andrew
The benchwork part no, but the trackwork part yes. I used surveyor many times in Ultimate Trainz to try out different ideas for layouts. For me it was just fun. Also you can use different sizes in surveyor as well. Example. Prototype, O scale, HO scale etc. Don't forget the ruler tool for distances as well. You can use feet for instance and then layout the area you have to work with. Like 4 x 8, or the room size etc. But the 2x4's for benchwork will have to be done in cad or pencil and paper. Hope that helps
Thanks, it's kinda what I figured, I have not had the program long and am still a bit green with it. Although I did discover the ruler function. That helped me define the layout room. I still can't fugure out how to set the radius for smooth curves. So I gave up on the program and got out pencil and paper. You can follow my progress "third time lucky" in the HO forum. Cheers, Ken.
DaveWonders - Yes, Rail Modeller is designed for the MAC platform. Go here for more details: http://www.railmodeller.com/ Once you have it installed, I have one very gracious member who has uploaded over 25 designs for Rail Modeller to the Layout Depot website: http://www.layoutdepot.com/designs.ihtml?step=2&sw=RailModeller&scale=All Have fun designing!
You're a lifesaver Peter. I got the demo and I will probably pay for the full version. Through that site I also found the free Mac program that lets you control a Digitrax DCC system through your Mac. Awesome. Thanks.
