Yes it was a show! I had a great time, and so did the crowds! The only problem was the show ended too soon. 2 days was not enough!
the Droppin Jaw module! Dang, those kids were all in awe! The fascination of a volcano! Wow! Looks like you guyZ had a great time. Little bit of turkey and a whole lot of Trains! Looking thru all the photos I did find one itsy bitsy item of controversy. Around the bend comes 2 NS SD70's pulling some Gunderson Husky's with containers. Awesome! But two Husky well cars back I spy an ancient consist of roofwalk boxcars. Ok guyZ, what gives? How can you do so much wrong in so little space! mg: Poor intermodal train! :teeth: Hah! Had you going! The loco got burnt because of lack of lube. No Oil. Brad did not change oil and filters in the F7 for over 100K miles... and ran his locos in harsh volcano environment at very high speeds. Kim
Nick, maybe they din't see those walkways, and that is why they need to have a younger guy who doesn't have to wear bifocals. By the way, looks like a great show, and I love to see kids with their mouth soooo open. The volcano looks like a kid magnet.
I think that large chunk of #%@# in the gears locked it up tight, combined with 5 minutes of full throttle and asking "why wont it go" did the trick. No head light was deceiving. What ever happened to Rob's loco that died mid consist? I had fun watching the volcano crowds.
John your correct. But I must say modeling in n-scale for so long I got into being prototypical and hopefully MTL will help with some moded cars.
It must be stressful to have all this crowd of people so close of the layout; I'm just imagining here, but I know there are always individuals who want to touch everything without having the knowledge of how fragile those things are. And I just saw the parrot guy, really weird, imagine the size of the poop that would do on the tracks. Ben
That is not the owner of the parrot either! He is like the show mascot, and different people walk around with that parrot on their sholder. The bird is friendly, but he is a pest and wants to go around and meet people. If he stay's at John's booth all day, he starts to bug John, so John drops the parrot off with someone else. After a while he bugs that person, and gets handed off to another person, and so on. The parrot is always at the train shows, on a different person's sholder. He don't like me because I have 3 cats and smell like a cat to him!
Criss, have you try to lower the containers into a walkway. They just slide off. No, its easier to remove the boxcars with walkways. I am glad to say I dont have any boxcars with walkways in my layout. But I am a little worry. Mr. modern guy (Tim) is working on a steamer.
I love it, "Calibrated". I'm going to start using that first thing in the morning. I know a lot of folks that need calibration. (In fact, I remember getting calibrated after fighting with my sister many years back. LOL) On a serious note, the layout looks great. I would love to see a video of the layout in action - including the volcano. Very cool.
Yes, it looks like you all had a good time. I am so ready to do another show (Hi, my name is Randy and it's been 2 1/2 weeks since my last show ;-) Any animation usually turns out to be huge crowd pleasers. If it's coming from a big mountain of a volcano, all the better. Having to look up at things is possibly even more effective than the long train effect of having to turn your head to see the end of the train. Rob Allbritton's Matterhorn became THE landmark of the whole show at NTS 2005. I don't think there was anything taller in the whole hall. I love to see all the photos and especially the "after action" reports from shows. There is always something new to pick up from others. Not only does BAZ put on some of the best show displays I've seen, but the show reports are some of the best I've seen as well. Randy
Heck, that BAZ report pix of the volcano must have been on of the 1st of the morning ones 'cause we often had 20-40 people there every 30 minutes with the kid's figuring out the count down timer, counting it down. With Brad's new subwoofer, that got any of the straglers from afar. Brad was ear-to-ear and ready to cut glass.
