I am looking for a custom painter to do two engines and a caboose. I have the undecorated engines and undecorated caboose and the decals but need someone to paint and decal them. No, I have tried to do my own painting and decaling but it was a disaster. I also tried to have two engines done previously by a so-called custom painter but all I ended up with were two expensive looking messes. Does anyone know someone they would recommend? Thank you! N Scale. Two Atlas GP-7s (60 & 70) and an Atlas Caboose (24) Central California Traction. Photos at: http://www.trainweb.org/tractionco/roster.html No detail parts
Wow, I believe it's #70 that is sitting derelict up here in Eureka on the former Northcoast Railroad.
Looks like a pretty straight forward paint & decal job. Even I could do a job you would be pleased with.
Pac Rail, Here's a link to the shop where my local club layout is. (HO in the basement and N scale upstairs) Jim works primarily in HO but I'm pretty sure he does N scale as well. http://www.nwihobbies.com
Mark, is that CCT #26 the one that is parked by the Depot Cantina in Tempe? I've noticed that group of waycars over there, but have no idea why they are there, nor what they are used for. I also wondered about Central California Traction roadname. I had not heard of it before I saw the caboose. I guess it is for real, then?
The October Railfan and Railroad mag has a long article about the Central California Traction co. at age100 this year. Cover photo by Ted Benson of one of their GP 18's.
I have the CCT book and it is outstanding. I picked up that issue of Railfan and Railroad on Tuesday. Yes, that is the real #26 CCT Caboose next to the Depot Catina in Tempe. (The stripes on it should be white and not yellow.) Mitch has the custom painting job. (I have always been impressed by his work that has been pictured on here.
Mark, As someone who does some painting for friends I always stay out of threads asking for a Custom Painter but I'm glad you made your decision and now that you have I'll share my opinions. Find someone who comes recommended. View some of their work. While most painters can do just about any road, any scheme- it's just easier if they're already familiar with what you're asking to be done. They might have detailed knowledge of what's "correct" beforehand. It looks like you've made a good choice by the 'rules' I'd keep in mind. Enjoy, Don
