I'm getting back into the hobby, after my great wife bought me a gift certificate ($250) to get going again. Been a few years, and wanted to know more about a N-TRAK type system for HO scale?

I thought I've seen similar premade modules for HO, that is the basic 2'x4' sections that allows you spend time on landscape, track, etc.

Does such a thing exist for HO? I have plenty of room, but move for my job every 3-4 years, and need something that can be easily disassembled...

Any suggestions on where to look?

PS: Any good track layout software?

There're modul norms available for H0. Look at

FREEMO and my blog. There you can see the advantages of a modular design. BTW, I've got the message at some of my links FREE-MO is going to another server.

Woodland Scenics makes styrofoam-based "modulars" but two of them will eat up that gift certificate pretty quick...

In addition to Wolfgang's suggestions above, try www.hotrak.ca for standards and some picturesof what can be done with 2x4 modules.

Then there are the hollow core door layouts. Depending on your location may be available in a large number of sizes (think 30" x 80" is most common). And, "good one side" can be had at very reasonable prices.

I have 5, gotten at good prices (estimate a lot less than board lumber) - and no carpentry involved.

And, with judicious use of foam, even allows for below grade features (ditches, rivers, and lakes).
