    Got two new Kato "N" SD70's. Decoders installed in both. Got them painted, the lower part that Kato forgets (well not forgets exactly, just too big for their britches to have to fully detail like Atlas, Inthemountain, Walther's ) Sunshades installed.
    Now for the run in. The first one ran like butter, forward and back. Started smooth and runs great. Now for the second one.
    I would not run forward until my Super Chief was up to 44, then took off like a rocket. At 43 it slows to a crawl and stops. It runs in reverse like it should????
    I am letting it run forward at 44 to see if that helps. So far, 30 minutes, no improvement.
    Any suggestions? If there is no change it goes back to Neal tomorrow. Everything but the shell which I detailed already.
    I did reset (F8) to see if that helped. Nada!

    Hi,

    I would take out and reinstall the decoder.

    It sounds like a problem with the the motor contacts.

    See if you can get it running better before you put the shell back on.

    How did it run with the DC light board?

    Another suggestion concerns the decoder if it has BEMF. Make sure the BEMF is turned off and then re-program the decoder.

    Stay cool and run steam......:cool::cool:

    Did you try the decoder manufacturers default reset? (assuming your decoder has a CV for that, most do)
    Loco1999 is also correct, defintely make sure everything is isolated and insulated.

    Good luck,
    Michael
