I used to use Invirotex Lite, but on my new module I tried the Woodland Scenics realistic water, and water effects. I really like it's ease of use and it looks pretty good.

    Allydude & Robert,
At some point I am going to be adding water to my layout. I see WS makes Magic water which comes in a bottle and E-Z water which comes in pellets that you melt with heat. What is the difference in the results between the two and why is one better than the other?

The pellets yellow with age, and shrink and curl up, peeling away from the shore!

I don't knwo what the realistic water will do over time, but so far 1 year it's been fine!

I have used the E-Z water pellets on my modules. I don't think the "yellow" coloration matter. But just adds to the realism in my rivers. But I will probably not buy another bag off these later on. I just use up what I have left so far and find another method for next time.

One problem with this "water" is that it gets rely hard and it cracks up real easy. Especially on a module that's being broth to shows and so on.

A small picture collage on my use off the E-Z water pellets can be viewed here: http://www.torsja.com/modelltog/diverse/Byggetips/E-Z-Water-8april2005/Woodland-E-ZWater.htm

Can't answer the water question, but I guess it is time I posted an update. I've been busy with work this last week, but did manage to make some progress. Here are a few pictures:

I've added a couple tool sheds from GCLaser. Very fine kits, and they went together fairly easy (tweazers are a MUST!). Here's one...

And here's another, which is now a bike shop.

I've added a rowboat to Sandy Lake. Just need some figures to put in it. Walters was back-ordered on the Pfeiser figures...

Here's my scratchbuilt warehouse with a Nansen Street Models Coal Truck, converted to flatbed. The coal bed is next to the warehouse.

And here's my UP F7 running along side another scratchbuilt shack,

Thanks for the interest. Maybe this weekend I can progress a bit further.

Looking good Alleydude! Looks like you are making all kinds of detailing progress!

I have a module that's over 2 years old now, and all I got is the outside tracks down, and a mountian in the middle. I better get to work on it. ;)

Allydude--You really have done a lot on your layout since you last posted. It's really coming along. Like Robert, I can't wait to get back to working on my layout.

    Hi allydude,
How is the progress of your layout coming along? Any new photos? I've been working on my Bullet train layout and for the first time used scuptamold. I really like it.

Thanks for asking. I've been working on the small town of Deadweed (a play on words, based on my favorite HBO series Deadwood). I plan on replacing some of the paper buildings, especially the one behind the grocery store. I still need to touch up the sidewalks, and by realistic standards, my roads are probably too black. It really has come to life with this much added detail, and I wish my camera would take better pictures.

The addition of the Marklin Fire Station, a laser cut kit I found hidden at a downstate hobby shop in the N-Scale section.

    Again, thanks for asking.

You have done a lot since your last post. I like the town. I just made a laser cut N scale kit and putting the stairs on the townhall was agonizing, I can't image doing a Z scale lazer kit. Your layout really coming along nicely.

The town looks good and I see a station peeking in on photo. Is that a resin Marklin or homemade?

Thanks everyone. That's a small station that came with my Marklin American Freight set. The set also came with a house, and a church.

Okay, another update. Here are some pictures of the town of Deadweed. The first are the Deadweed Fire Department. The firebarn is a Marklin laser cut wood kit, the firetruck and ambulance are http://stores.ebay.com/Randy-Brown models from eBay.

Here is the Gul -N- Git, a convienience store kit also by Randy Brown. If you haven't checked out is offerings on eBay, I recommend you do. Though not the most detailed (at least the convienience store wasn't) it does offer a lot for the price of $10.00. It comes with an ice chest with decal, A.C. unit for the roof, gas meter, and trash dumpster. The windows and door moldings are seperate pieces, and it comes with window glass as well. It works.

The utility truck is also Randy Brown...

Here's an overhead shot of what it looks like at this point. I've added center lines to the roads, a gravel road between the firebarn and the main street shops, and the convienience store and parking lot, as well as a bit more grass and trees. I've also rebuilt some of the paper buildings. They look better now, not so crooked.

    Looking Good!

    Gulp-N-Git!!!

That is the place to get a Big Gulp! :teeth: Cool!

Your town is coming along great! Are you going to put STOP signs up at intersections or Traffic Lights?

    Looks Great!
