I tried to install a Digitrax DH163LO plug n' play decoder in a P2K GP-9 with no success. It is my understanding that these decoders are designed to fit these locos. I removed the orginal light board as instructed and plugged the new decoder in. The problem was it forced the 8 pin female plug to sit too high and the body shell would not fit over the underframe. Is there something I should have done or is there another alternative decoder that could be used without having to change bulbs or add resistors? AF Niederer
You are correct, Digitrax recommends that decoder for that loco. Make sure the wires under the decoder board are not bunched up making it sit too high. You could sand the inside of the shell a little. I have not installed any decoders in the GP9 so I don't really know. Maybe someone else here has.
