For you ATSF and BNSF fans 2 new road number Sd40-2's headding in. Darn more money out the door. Steve you can see them over at www.katousa.com (doh!)
www.katousa.com is the site. I make the same mistake all the time though Steve. Was this really necessary though? 1 more road # of each? Both SF...on top of the NW2 only being SF....*yawn* C'mon Kato.... Thanks for the heads up, Steve.
Can there ever be eneugh SD40-2's? Well for me no I have 19 of them now just about eneugh maybe..... thanks for the spell check Dave must type s l o w e r.
I have no problems with SD40-2s, or NW2s for that matter...I just wish some were more than just Santa Fe. I recognize that it's without question the most popular road but man. Obviously I want to see everything in CSX Except instead of a NW2 how bout some SW1500s. I'm not holding my breath.
I think Kato is still operating under the conditions of the 1937 pact with Germany wherein everything East of the Mississippi River was reserved for Germany. But really folks, their marketing strtegy is absolutely clueless.
Why not produce something the majority would consider? It's the very reason I don't model UP, SF or SP - everyone was producing and modelling those roads when I started seriously modelling. Had to be different and model BN before it became popular. Still, back to the original topic, how about some mid-production, non-snoot, non-ATSF/BNSF cab A/C equipped, non-ditchlight, stock standard -2's in non-white face BN, KCS, MKT, MoPac, SP and the eastern roads I know little about? Is that asking too much?
Once upon a time kato would release a one size fits all model, that was not prototype specific, like their first release of -9's, only the CNW release was accurate. Now they release items that are prototype specific, but this limits them to a few roads. So we get more accurate releases with limited appeal. It just makes the waiting game more difficult. I personally don't like their "2 week notice" product releases. How do they expect a customer to pay for a release when they only have 2 weeks to make financial arrangements? What is the big deal about telling us what you plan to release ahead of time?
How about some sd40-2 without ditch lights, I need some more dash 2's but need the 80's style. Undec would work.
Someone needs to give those guys a railroad atlas. There are more railroads in the USA than ATSF and BNSF and I`ll be darned, a lot of them had SD40-2`s. Time for Atlas to pick up the slack...
I doubt we'll see that,,,, Kato has recently retooled the SD40 chassis (within the last few years) and also announced that they were going to produce SD45's again too.... SD40's aren't too hard to find, if you don't mind stipping paint or love the Algoma Central Harold
Except for the Atlas part,I agree. I went on their websites & told them the USA has an east coast also. I told them that not all "N" scalers are BNSF/Santa Fe fans.
I want to see some in an eastern scheme as well. Kato very rarely produce anything for eastern modellers these days. It's a safe but pretty ill-advised marketing strategy on their part. I would buy at least four of these suckers in a NW scheme.
How bout some nice bright ACL F7/E8s or FEC....I don't even model that era but growing up my father had these beautiful paintings on his wall of both roads...And I know LL made em and they're dirt cheap but c'mon. I'm not even wasting my time changing couplers and the like.
If you want to be sure of getting it you have to order as soon as its released wether its 2 weeks or 6 months. Its not a matter of how soon we want it so much as when Kato wants us to buy it.
Yes that used to be the case. The thing people are missing about Katos new policy is that items should stay in stock longer or re-run if needed with new numbers. Kato is releasing these SD40-2's while the previous release remains available. If you go to Kato's website and check the in-stock list, you'll find most items still there and the ones that aren't are listed as 'temporarily out of stock'. I think people need to give this some time to develop. If the NW2's sell out right away it's just buyer panic. It will not be indicative of whether Kato is producing enough models. Jason
Man......I really need more locomotives right now like I need a hole in my head.....but they are SD40-2s.......
