Hi everyone. I have been in model railroading and computers for years but just recently discovered model railroading forums. This is my first post on a forum.

I have been considering getting an MRC Sound decoder to try and I was wondering if anybody has used one and can comment on how good the sound and motor control features are.

Also, has anyone noticed that MRC is planning on doing additional drop-in sound decoders including one for the KATO P42(click here to read about it).

    Welcome to TrainBoard

Sound has yet to make an appearance on my layout. Some Nscalers here have sound equipped equipment, some have exactly what you are asking about. PSG comes to mind, of course the H0 guys I am sure will comment.

Thanks for the link to the MRC P-42 decoder release, I was not aware of that and will need to get that one

    Welcome to Trainboard CSX Robert.

I have one of the new MRC diesel sound decoders (with attached speaker) installed in one of my Atlas GP38s. I sent the frame into Aztec Manufacturing for modification (to accomdate the speaker in the fuel tank and a groove for the wires). I'm very pleased with it. I still need to mess with various configuration variables to adjust the volume (I think it needs to be a little softer) and the bell ring rate, which seems to fast to me. My little 2 year old little boy loves that loco as he always asks me to run my trains so he can blow the whistle and ring the bell.

I'd like to pick up another one of these decoders!
