I'm looking for a photo and possible numbers (if someone has them) of any CN SD40-2's painted in the sargeant stripe scheme with a regular cab and dynamic brakes. Searched around on Fallen Flags and Railpictures with no luck. Thanks.
No such animal. No CN regular cab SD40-2's were ever in the "Embarrassed Zebra" scheme. The closest thing you'll find would be the ex NAR SD38-2's that were painted in that scheme. All The regular cab SD40-2's on the roster are the result of takeovers or unit swaps, in the case of the Ontario Hydro units, and these happened after the CNNA scheme was introduced. grant
As Grant mentioned, all CN ordered SD40-2's were delivered with the (then) new safety cab installed. However, CN did roster a large fleet of SD40's. For the most part these were delivered in the original black and red scheme, then were re-painted into the striped paint scheme. Here are some pictures: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=37088 ...in the stripes http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=39674 and the obligatory picture from Hamilton http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=32982 Enjoy! Oh cmon, when delivered all the RR books in the world labeled the cab "Canadian Cab". Stop calling it a safety cab . Kidding!
Fine have it your way LADiver (and my way too!). They were, and are, Canadian cabs. I remember when they were always referred to as Canadian cabs, it'd be interesting to find out when we stopped calling them Canadian and started with just safety. I'm thinking it must have been around the time of the GE adaptation of the cab being released.
