Alright folks......im taking the jump into it and am goin to add to my Santa Fe projects and go for the amos and andy....i will make No. 1 and then make a mold of it for the second and adjust details on the mold as needed but to get me going....I NEED DIAGRAMS!!! does anyone have scaled drawings or a scaled to N drawing that i can copy?
also, what would be a good chassis to use that i will not have to cut down? i half a$$ed measured from a picture in a book and the inside axle on the front truck was on on joint and the inside of the other was on another joint roughly which means it should measure 39'? if i am correct since jointed rail sections are 39'1/2" ft.
the help is much appreciated and i will keep you all informed as i get rolling....

Good luck with the project, it should be very cool. I have a friend who has the HO model of the twins. I only have the book Early Diesel Days. Looking forward to seeing your work.

The last paragraph of page 29 in McCall's Early Diesel Daze references the following: "The underframe of each unit was a one-piece steel casting, 61 feet, 3 inches in length over end sills, mounted on two 4-wheel swivel trucks with center plates spaced 40 feet apart." The Priest's The Santa Fe Diesel Vol one states that "The 240-ton duo measured approximately 127 feet over-all."

Hey... now that I look more closely at my McCall book. There is a couple of diagrams in the book. One has the twins with dimensions of the major features, the other shows a bit more detail on the Topeka rebuild. Contact me offline and I can probably send you a scan of the page.

I believe that the Kato EF65 etc. chassis with the center unpowered truck removed gives the correct truck spacing. The Con-Cor U50B truck is a drop in replacement for the JNR one and has the correct AAR B look to it.
While you're at it you might want to do the EMC 512 nee ATSF 1C which was leased from Electro-Motive and ran with the "Twins", sometimes even in a three unit configuration. It has a different body and side panel layout than the 1A and 1B and it if you look in photos you can spot it when it is running in place of one of the owned units.
Its twin, the 511 spent its time on the CB&Q as protection for the EA shovelnose units, mostly on the Twin Cities Zephyr. The engine was returned to EMC when the CB&Q built the Aeolus streamlined S4a Hudson to serve in the protection power for the shovelnoses.
