I am, for the most part a steam head. But, I also run (transition era) early diesels. Simply because I also love the early black smoke, noisy ALCOs. Here are a few of mine. I between layouts, so can't give the scenery, but here are a couple of my favorite Alcos. There are several others, but no pictures. Some will be going under the airbrush, and all of them will be weathered when the layout gets close to ready to run.. Obviously, I am partial to the RS units. Lets see yours...
Wonderful stuff! I am partial to Baltimore and Ohio FA-2s in the first paint scheme. My first Alco in N was an MRC RSD-15 painted in the early B&O colors.
Welcome!!!! My fleet consists of FA/FB-1's, PA's, and RS-3's. Actually passed the old ALCO plant several times in the sixties. Hope to start a layout this year. Frank
Me TOO!:teeth: : I really like the looks of the RS units! I've got two (see pic) but will probably end up with at least two more! Looking to perhaps get one in NYC lightning stripe, and perhaps the new Atlas RSD C&O release! They are NEAT engines:shade: ! Sincerely, J.W. Hall Likes Alco's
My Cotton Belt in my pics is an older pic. The shell and rails were in bad shape. It has since been reshelled, and will be repainted in Rock Island attire soon.
We need mass produced RSD-12's and 15 gaters! Both Alco and Baldwin did some butt ugly beautiful designs that only a steam locomotive designer could come up with and a steam fan can appreciate.
Alco's last units and unfortunately my shelf queen. SP&S Alco C-636. And a I have about ten sets of FA-1s and FA-2s And then there are the GN units. And of course the North of the border Alco cousins. Along with a number of GN and SP&S RS-1s 2s and 3s, along with some small switchers give me a diesel roster that is about 70 percent Alco.
All the white parts are cast resin. Mostly Atlas RS11 parts that were cast, kitbashed, then recast. Now I need to do RS32 sides for the RS11 shell so Atlas will announce them:teeth:
My freshly shopped Espee Alco RSD5: Alco C628 used for switching like the older Houston units: I might have a few more. The big six axle units really pull well in the yard.
an RS32 would be very cool, and I like the cab lighting unit on the RS12, I could do with copying that onto my RSD15. Simon
Here's a couple more shots of the RSD12. I plan on doing RS32's and at least one RSD15 using the same methods. parts: assembled: cab and nose still separate
