I have been blessed with a large area for my trains and am wondering about wireless. Does anyone have it is it worth it? I currently have a NCE Powerhouse and love it so I will be considering NCE's wireless. Thanks to all who reply! Jeff
I think the systems are pretty equal, If you like your NCE system then upgrade it to radio. I have a Digitrax radio Chief, and the radio is a great thing when your following a train around the layout.
I have the radio Digitrax Super Chief and the wireless is very nice. The only down side is that you need to plug into a loconet port if you want to change either of the trains the CAB is currently controlling. I don't know anything about the NCE version, but if you are already invested in NCE, I would say stay with NCE.
I like the Digitrax wireless (radio), but the IR leaves a bit to be desired. But it is common to all IR that line of sight is pretty close to mandatory - a situation we rarely have at the layouts I operate with, or the club set-ups. I do not mind the "plug back in" requirement for Digitrax. The only situation where it might be problematic is if you are trying to steal an out of control loco that's about to take a big plunge...! Yes it can be up-graded, you will also need a ROB2. I know Tony's Trains can do the up-grade and they also sell the ROB2. No need to plug in when using the radio, all funtions are available through the radio. Jim
Jeff I have 2 NCE systems one is the Wireless and I would reccomend the NCE one for sure. I have never had any issues or problems with either system and would not trade them for anything. Good range typical quality NCE product. I think you can upgrade your current set with just the wireless package making it less expensive than an entier new set. Steve
Wireless Jeff, I have had my NCE wireless for about 4 months now and I think its great. Have had no problems!
Jeff, Just to clarify the Digitrax situation... All throttles come with IR wireless, but you will need to have a IR receiver. If you buy the radio-equipped systems, they come with a radio throttle (also does IR wireless) and a radio receiver. The radio receiver is available separately as well. You may also upgrade any throttle to radio wireless after the fact by sending it to Digitrax. Andrew
