In this case, a backyard! I've been looking at a move for myself, and can't decide if having this in a backyard would be very cool or really annoying... John Ztrains http://www.ztrains.com
I have tracks at the end of my street, about 120 yards away, and I hear the trains at night. Where I'm at, it's a soothing deep bass rumble. The grade crossings are about 1/2 mile away, so the horns don't bother me at all. I really like it when trains go by, because they are going slow, and I feel more than I hear, and it makes for a good night's rest for me!
I grew up in the Ohio River valley. Just down the hill from the parents house in the main lines that run west to the big Conway yard. Nothing is better than falling to sleep at night hearing the trains and the sounds of the tugs on the river. Very peaceful! We do have a single line not too far from the house and you can occasionally hear the trains. Rob
Definately move there! I have an apartment thats across the Ohio River from a double track NS/W&LE crossing...I love it!
Backyard 1:1 modelling!!! Definitely - the louder the better..... Below is my backyard - sorry I took it tonight so it is hard to see the details - I live in the old railway station while across the south going main is the new commuter station. Henderson is in Auckland New Zealand and has a double track mainline heading north going through it. ps: Will also show the front (roadside) of the station after its new paint this week.
...or 7-1/2 or 15" to ride on with your Engineer outfit. At least they can halfway see that scale of a train. But I do think you ought to put up a bunch of signal, signs and stuff. Definitely a grade crossing with bells and arms. Stage your armoured vehicle . . . Oh, I got it, you can play chicken and see how much you can get the wheels to spark
Robert, I think you are suffering the same like me: ferrosomnibiliensis. I only can catch a bit of sleep when hearing a powerful diesel engine rumbling by. then I'm happy and slip away into dreamland :teeth:
