Hi all just thought I would drop this in here, some great work being done close to my folks home in Co. Kevin http://www.drhs315.org/restoration/
My friend Henry McMahon saw this engine in 1963 while on Summer vacation in Colorado. Mac's photo shows the engine on display at the Chamber of Commerce in Durango. Mac and I are both members of a model railroad club in Kentucky.
Kevin, that's a great website, really detailing the restoration. Thanks for the link. What's happening with 2926? :teeth:
Kevin- Thanks! Excellent web site! I had no idea they'd made so much progress. Boxcab E50
Looking through the restoration progress pages they seem to be getting quite a lot of work done on it. The website is designed poorly to host information like that though. Having to click Next continually for such a small amount of information per page is kind of senseless.
For what it's worth, I didn't know this engine existed, either. And I've developed an interest in narrow gauge. But then, non-operational steam isn't too important in my book.
Moving today the locomotive is loaded and will move to the D&S yards to day. operations during narrow gauge rail-fest should happen during the weekend of the 25 Regards, Kevin
Sweet tow rig! Likely a tank transporter, so that little teakettle would have been just a walk in the park. Thanks for the link! She didn't have to move far--would have been a tough trip over Wolf Creek Pass with that rig....
Link to photos of the move. As far as i know, all they need to do is put the main rods on. the there will be the 1001 last minute things.... Kevin link; http://www.ngeditions.com/315/move/315MoveIndex.htm
They have brought engines over wolf creek pass before in lesser rigs...that one would have made it a cake walk!
Yes, a cakewalk, but a SLOW cakewalk. The weight restrictions for big loads over the Pass are proportional for the weight of the load. With a rig and load like that, it would be a 5MPH trip down the mountain!
