Lorne has started another thread on his sectional On30 layout with a first version track plan - and I think I'm just going to tag along on that thread as I get started on whatever I end up doing. I completely agree with the sectional approach, especially since I'm in an apartment (been in the same apartment for over 8 years with no end in sight, sometimes have to remind myself it's not "mine" to modify, LOL). But I have that cruelest of model railroader diseases: "continuous running". I'll probably go for around-the-walls sectional shelf design to get the continuous, but set it up for point-to-point operations. The June 2007 Model Railroader issue has a piece (by Jerry Boudreaux) starting on page 65 for an HO plan in a 9x11 room that I would not exactly copy, but looks promising for inspiration with suitable modifications. Probably go into this a lot more in Lorne's thread. :teeth:
Just a thought here- There have been two magazine issues published, called "On30 Annual." (2006, 2007.) If you see one at a hobby shop, take a look. Boxcab E50
HO track for On30 Although Micro-Engineering and Peco make prototypically correct On30 track, many people use regular HO track. Atlas code 100, with the exception of the length of the ties, is a good choice. Just remove every other tie to get prototypical spacing or just use it as it is. You'll discover as I have that the On30 and Large Scale community is much more laid back and open-minded when it comes to having fun with model railroading.
Just since this thread started I've really gotten immersed into this narrow gauge stuff, On30 in my case. So even though John (JCater) started this with a query about what the HOn3 people are up to, we've kind of hi-jacked the subject a bit into On30 etc. Apologies if anyone is getting miffed over that. But I agree with on30francisco, the narrow gauge crowd seems agreeably laid back, specially the large scale and On30. Now, if I were attempting Zn3, I think I'd be squinting a lot (more) and very tense, LOL, but I bet someone's out there doing it!

Seems to me that in the past year or two, someone posted photos here of a Z narrow gauge on their Z modules. Even as a youth, my eyesight was not that good. Boxcab E50
This is for people who have two hobbies: astronomy and Zn3 model railroading. After searching the heavens with your 8 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector, you can aim your telescope at your Zn3 empire in a shoebox lid and have a blast! But seriously, Nn3 and Z and Zn3: just amazing stuff going on. Even if I can't do it, still great to see what others are doing.
