My wife was quite generous to me when it came to the hobby. When we finally settled on our new home, she made sure to leave me a spare 9x16 room for my latest layout

She is big fan of architecture, and has lately been eyeing art deco and 1960's styled HO structures to add to the layout on her own. Gotta love that!

I have broached the subject of a hidden yard. She said "Where?
I said right next to the boiler on the other side of the wall from the train room. She laughed.

Thats nice dude, just make sure you heard correctly. I had a similar converasation with my ex wife. In my case the "you can always expand" was talking about my midrift expanding with age... not the layout.

All I have room for is my 4X8. The only way I sleep at night is saying to myself when I buy a house, I make a layout five times bigger.

Our wives and gal pals deserve a lot more respect than we give them some times. The seem to be as intrested in what intrestes us as them ... with that said we may learn to repay the intrest, eh guys? Some gals really are sticks and stones and noisy clanky stuff ....

Just a little late to the party. Why not just start a new thread?

I guess I'm pretty fortunate in that any lady I've dated has bought into my hobby to an extent. No need to ask them about budgeting...LOL Guess I fortunate there also.

Here are some nuggets uttered by my lovely wife over the years...:

    "Don't you EVER finish anything??"

"Nononononono THAT is NOT staying there..."

    "Are you starting over AGAIN??"

    "Are you ever coming upstairs?"

"Oh look, another box for you in the mail. Well I guess it's just Christmas for you every day, isn't it?"

    "WHAT? MORE wood???"

There are others, many others which I just can't remember at the moment. But you get the idea. Don't get me wrong. I love my wife dearly. We've been together for 22 wonderful years. But she just doesn't understand what a model railroader is all about. No, they never finish anything, they rebuild their layouts over and over, they buy enough wood over the years to frame a small house, and they usually bite off more than they can chew.
But that's what makes it fun. Women/life partners/wives/girlfriends never see it that way. To them you are a time-wasting eccentric and hopefully they still love you and accept you hobbies and all. To all you guys out there with understanding and supportive women in their lives, more power to you.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some sheets of 3/8 inch plywood I have to sneak through the kitchen and down into the basement... wish me luck.

And oh yeah. I forgot to mention this one. Don't ask what I had to go through when I sold off my considerable amount of HO equipment on Ebay and started collecting N scale... To this day she can't understand why anyone would want to go from bigger to smaller... You'd think that she would be happy with me being able to store TWICE as much in HALF the space, but nooooooo...

No, apparently chucking HO for N fell under the "starting over/never finishing anything" category. Go figure.

    The problems is:

The wives rightfully believe we end up putting about Twice as much stuff in the Same amount of space...LMAO !!

Laughed so hard I almost fell on the floor. That one just hit too close to home
