Well i heard that R.J. Corman was buying a Steam engine from china. If i rember right it was a 2-10-2! From what i heard was it was gonna run from Louisville,KY to Lexington,KY. Anyone have any further info?
From that other train site... "Trains magazine is reporting that R.J. Corman Railroad is buying a QJ 2-10-2 steam locomotive for special train service. This will be a third QJ that is currently in China, not one of the two stored in Iowa. I believe it is to be used between Louisville and Lexington,Kentucky."
Interesting. Someone keep us updated on this project. BTW- What's happening with the two in Iowa? Boxcab E50
here is my understading of recent happenings: The Iowa Interstate's Chinese QJ 2-10-2's were operated last week -- the first time since September, as a deadhead move to the southwest Iowa region for a chartered train. They were on the point of a freight train to that region, with a reported 88 cars! 4200 tons to be exact. That must have been a show! By now, they are probably closed up.. unless they plan to romp around some more. A search on railpictures.net yields the following photos: http://www.railpictures.net/showphotos.php?road_number=IAIS 7081 Regards, Mike
I can't wait for this to happen. RJ Corman's Dinner train is really nice and I'm sure this purchase will be up to par. My good friend is a conductor for RJCC and he informed me of this a while back. Mr. Corman apparantly had the head man from the UP's steam program go check it out. Big steam from China is pretty handsome IMO.
   It looks a lot like ours, but it isn't that big. They're very light, with an axle loading of around 20 tons, IIRC.
I have a Goodheart video, which has an advertising trailer for a China steam tape. Shows a couple of these engines working. They do have a throaty bark. Boxcab E50
