What the best way to get AC to power acc from. I'm using a Digitrax Zepher for the trains. But need AC for the switches and a bunch of AC lights. I didn't want to use an old power pack.
    What are other people using?
    Thanks,
    Vin

I considered using an AC power supply such as Digitrax PS515, a 5 Amp 15 VAC power supply but have not purchased one. Right now I am using an old power pack.

This is exactly what I'm using and it's currently powering 25 switch machines. Once I get my buildings and streets wired up for lights, etc, it'll power those as well.

    Working great so far!

Also, check your local Goodwill and other thrift stores. They often have boxes full of old mismatched wall warts that you can get for less than a couple of dollars. You just have to know what you're looking for - voltage, number of amps, AC or DC, etc. Also check other electric items they have that come with wall warts (e.g. cordless phones or hand-held vacuums) - it will cost more to get the whole appliance, but still cheaper than getting a brand new wall wart from All Electronics, Jameco, or Radio Shack.

How much power do you need? I ran into problems getting my DCC system to reliably throw Peco turnout solenoids. I was using the AC posts on 1300 as I recall. Turned out that I needed about 3 amps at 16 volts and I only had about an amp.

Certainly a wall wart may provide AC, but will it provide the amount you need?

I can easily see where you could need 3 or 4 amps of AC if you got a little carried away with light bulbs etc.

My 2 cents, about all it is worth.
