Found this while searching for something else (close to corn ) From the German site: www.minitec24.de/mais.htm
Jeff If I understand this correctly, you get about 84 stalks of corn or maize? for about $13.00 plus postage. That could really add up for a field full, but the idea is unique. Loren
Alkem Scale models does N scale etched brass corn, it might be usable in Z, I don't know. But with theirs, you get over 200 stalks for 13.99 for one pack. They have a special on 3 packs for 29.99. Dan S. http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Bunker/8552/ASMMain/Corn.html
Michael, What I want to know is.....do they make any crows? Now that would be small, but not as small as your corn holders. Geesch, we use our fingers out West...... Loren
"Michael, What I want to know is.....do they make any crows? Now that would be small, but not as small as your corn holders. Geesch, we use our fingers out West...... Loren" Must be a New York City thing. ;-) I would be curious to see a size comaprison between the Alkem N scale corn and these. Was there an English page available on that German site? Looked like it might still be under construction or something. Shows the Grand Union, but it is grayed out. Didn't someone do corn in paper once upon a time as well? I need about 6"x6" plot for a corner of my module so I have something to do with the combine I got from Tim. ;-) Randy
Those corn stalks can be laser rastered out of thin plastic, then heat and twist, and ready for spray painting! -Robert
I have contacted them to arrange an order. If all goes well, I'll have some to compare to the N scale Alkem cornrows that I already have.
But Tim's combine has a corn head! You can't use a corn head for wheat! What kind of farmer are you? Dan S.
Z Scale Corn!! Wow!! How Original is this!!! Too Cool!!! -------------------------------------------- Let me take you back in time. Somewhere after the 2005 NTS, but before Halloween. A certain young (yeah right) and innovative Z scaler was experimenting with brass etching. This is something only Jeffrey White has seen before! No silly, not that first successfully assembled Combine (with high gloss paint) the rows of corn!!! I removed the brass from the etchant too soon. The second attempt turned out better than the first. Unfortunately I sold the second set before photographing it. I still have the etching overlays!!! Z Scale Corn!!! Cool!!! Hobo Tim
I hope Not! I hope all of this talk doesn't go to try and persuade me to make more of these!!!!! Maybe later on!!! Hobo Tim
OK, I'll play too. Corn can't be that hard, and I had a couple morning hours to burn, so here is my Saturday Morning project, finished by 09:30 Quickly drew out some corn rows, rastered out of .010" acrylic, and shot with a bright green color. Painted the bottom of the rows brown, and tips desert yellow, then shot with dullcote. Glued down the rows with Matte Medium, sprinkled sifted backyard dirt on top, and misted with water alcohol mix, to set the soil. Before the soil could all the way dry, snapped a couple pics in the morning sun.
Dan, I'm just a dirt poor farmer with no combine, but when I was young I used to spend my summers eating dirt while sitting on top of one of those older models that didn't have air conditioning and I think I swallowed enough dirt to plant a whole field of corn in. Harvested mostly rye grass and wheat. Back in the 60s they didn't harvest corn that way. Times sure have changed. Robert's corn sure sprouted quickly this morning. Must be all that good California sunshine. I can see that we are going to have a lot more corn fields on our layouts now thanks to guys like Robert and Tim. Anyone want to try for tomatoes? Loren
