Hi all, I'm looking for the origin of this photo... Is it electrical lines from Milwaukee Road ? Thanks for your answers. Best regards.
Oups, important information here : http://www.shorpy.com/node/159 This photo was taken in Carr Fork Canyon (Utah) in 1942... Who's company use electrical power and who's motive power ??? (excuse my poor english)
Those don't look to be the kind of lines to electrify a railroad. looking at the hi res photos, maybe they are.
I will try to see what I can help with this one too.. The below image shows a "Safety Bar" that was used to help warn trainmen of an approaching tunnel so your photograph might be also safety related on the bridge.
Here is another shot from 1925 Makes me wonder if they later did string power lines to buildings and used the bridge as a way to get them across the canyon. Just a thought... Other thoughts could be telegraph, phone, etc. lines for mining operations.
That photo sure makes a person think Milwaukee Road. I know it is Kennecott. The bridge construction appears similar. And those catenary support arches are a typical style. When they shut down their electrification, those electric motors were scattered far and wide. There were at couple of different styles. The most interesting was the pit unit. Which had two different pantographs- One standard style on top, and one that would swing out to the side, for when catenary poles were out of alignment. Plus, batteries for areas where the temporary catenary was not installed, and even an extension cord on a reel under the cab. I got to ride in one of these several times. Fascinating how quiet they were. Just some flange squeals, and those occasions when the compressor kicked on. Boxcab E50
