Does anyone carry seperate Kato cars? I am building a train for my Spectrum J-Class and would really like to have a Kato observation. Got a six car Con-Cor set off ebay, but do not like the observation. Kato's is a whole lot closer, but have not been able to find it except in a set. Thanks. Sully
Check the availability of components at Parts Department listings on the Kato website. You may be able to buy the body shell and separately sold window glass (which you will need to hold the body together), diaphrams, trucks and detail parts to assemble an undec car. Ben
Ben - Thanks for the info, will look into that. Kevin - I am looking for the smoothside. Trying to replicate the cars used by Norfolk and Western on their Powhatten Arrow, Pocahontas, or The Cavalier. Sully
M.B. woo woo woo had some undecorateds, but I do not remember if they had an observation or if they still have any of the single cars. Check some train store.com or send them an e-Mail. Shane Baykowski (sp?) is usually the guy who would know, but some of the other guys there might know, too.
Brokemoto - I will email woo woo woo about the car, but did not see it listed on the web site. Did find the body and glass listed on the Kato parts page. Think that will be the way I go. Not too expensive, and certainly easier than trying to convert the Con-Cor to look like I want it to. Thanks again to everyone for their help. Sully
The website has only partial listings - email them. The Kato SS diner is a close match to the N&W D2 smoothside diner and of course the Kato SS observation is the closest thing to the N&W obsv. I've got a large collection (for me anyway) of passenger cars awaiting N&W decals. What are your plans for decals? The Microscale decals are incorrect and discontinued to boot. There is a new (accurate) set in the works from "someone" but no announcements yet.
Well, I managed to find 2 sets of the Microscale versions online. Didn't think they looked real accurate. Had been toying with the idea of trying to make my own heralds provided I could find a good enought picture to use. Figure these will work until a new set comes out. Had not heard about a new set until your post. Very interesting. May just go ahead and use what I have and re-do the cars if and when better graphics come out. I don't have a layout right now, nor do I have plans for one in the future, so I am not real concerned about 100% accuracy at this stage. Would just like to have some cars to pull behind the J-Class as it goes around my loop! Will definitely have to keep my eyes open for the new set. Sully
I have found them on Ebay you have to search for them and watch the site since they are not actually sold individually. Good luck.
The MicroScale N&W passenger sets stink anyway. The spacing on them is wacked. Unless you like your: N___O___R___F___O___L___K_________A___N___D_________W___E___S___T___E___R___N (this forum won't allow enough spaces dang it!) translated into NORFOLK AND WESTERN There are other problems with the MS set. Maybe that's why they were discontinued.
Oh, I totally agree. But like I said, will probably use them for now, just will hold off clear coating over them. If and when a new set comes out, or I break down and try my hand at making my own, I can take them off and redo, then clear coat!
I am also debating on removing the skirting between the trucks on the cars. The pics I have found show no skirts, but it may prove more of a pain than I want to deal with. Sully
Sully and N&W, I know a guy who is trying to market/produce some custom decals and I believe he does N&W. PM me if interested and I can see if he can do what you want---or just put you all together. BZ
