I've got an order to paint those two engines - before that I didn't even know that they were out there once... SP SD44R #7399 Daylight (detailed with BLMA, GMM, Sunrise Enterprises parts and some self made light clusters, painted with Badger Model flex colors and decaled with Microscale and my own decals...) steve w.
Lookin awesome!!! Well Captain Funkalicious that's lookin pretty awesome. Better watch out that MC Spaceboy doesn't come and grab them first!!mg:mg: Nice one Steve, I likey :teeth:
Steve - I knew the 7399 was painted that way but not the other unit. The 7399 was painted into the SPSF red/yellow warbonnet scheme next and retained the gray trucks and fuel tank from the daylight scheme. Nice Job!
hey steve do you even paint the inside of the airhorns in a different color than the outside ??? at least that's what it looks like.
UnREAL! That second unit is pretty far-out! You did a beautiful job on them, Steve. The different lettering on 7342's long hood is correct? Very interesting....
Weren't these two used as helpers when 4449 went to New Orleans for the Hemisphere in 1970 something ? Nice job on the painting !
Very nice work. The decals are real impressive. Is the Model flex paint the same as Accuflex? I have used the Accuflex and love it. Sully
Yes, and no. When the train left Colton, Ca., eastbound, it was supposed to have these two units on the point. For reasons unknown (something about they couldn't get the set to Colton in time and they needed to be serviced before going back out) the regular helpers stationed at the ice deck escorted them over the hill. On the return trip the Daylight with the Olympic engine on the point brought her back home. I have slides as I chased the train in both directions...just don't know where they are. Packed to move and that isn't likely to happen anytime soon...but that's ok~! I over use the word awesome but that fits here. Awesome work and done the way I remember them.
Some info on 7342. She was used as a test bed for a new paint scheme for SP. SP was attempting to get away from the Scarlet and Grey, "Bloody" nose. As I understand, this units paint scheme was judge by employees to see what they liked. She had three different variations of Daylight paint in her paint test run. Financial reasons axed the repaint idea for the fleet. Thom
