About 20 years ago, I was driving back to Texas from Oregon. Along the trip, in Colorado, I stopped a rest stop with some nice scenery of a river below. When I stopped, I did not notice the railroad tracks on the other side of the road.

After I had been there a few minutes, I beagn to hear the rumble of a train as it came closer...but it was sort of muffled. About that time a train appeared from a tunnel, crossed a few hundred yards of open area, and back onto another tunnel. It was working to pull a slight grade and I could feel the vibrations in the ground.

I'll be passing back through Colorado in a few weeks and would like to visit that spot again...but I have no idea where it was. If anyone is familiar with Colorado and can offer some suggestions, please do.

    Thank You

What was the name of the railroad? Do you remember the engine types, engine numbers, colors, etc.?

Remember the highway number of the last or next town you came to?

Were you on a regular highway, or on a back road?

Remember if you were in the north, or center of the state etc traveling in what direction?

There are a lot of places that can fit this description, so far.

Sounds like it might be Glenwood Canyon along I-70. Railroad would have been Rio Grande 20 years ago.

The problem is that I am not sure where I was in Colorado...it's been so long ago. I recall that I spent the night prior near Salt Lake City, Utah and the night after seeing the train near Colorado Springs or Pueblo. I am not sure I stayed on the interstate the entire way, I have a habit of taking scenic highways.

Any ideas of where I may have been are appreciated.

My gut also think you were somewhere on I-70

The highway has changed much over the years but the RR and River follow along side with many a tunnels along the way.
