Got this off the MS web site. Looks like it WILL run on XP as well, but looks like better performance may be gained by having Vista. PeteC Q: What operating systems will Train Simulator 2 run on? I heard it was Vista only. A: Train Simulator 2 will be available for Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems. But DirectX 10, which provides enhanced 3-D graphics-rendering capabilities and helps noticeably improve your computer's gaming performance, is available only on Windows Vista.
Me two, I've been using Ultimate since the day it came out, no worries, just don't try to run it on 1 gig of ram.:msmile: Edit, I just noticed someone said ITUNES does not work on Vista, this is not the case, I have converted to ITUNES about a year ago. No issues.
I wasn't all that sad when I saw that MSTS two was canceled. I didn't plan on buying it right away, or for that matter, at all. MSTS 1 is still kicking, and there's still alot in my trainset folder. Also, if you want a new sim, look at TRS (Trainz) 2009. I don't like it, but that's because I couldn't run TRS 2006 on my system without it freezing. Plus, I liked MSTS 1 better, plus I figured out more on that system anyway. For now, I'll stick with MSTS 1. People are still building routes, making rolling stock, and it works. As long as it works, without much trouble, I'll use it.
And that really sums up a lot of the Vista aggro. Vista doesn't really do anything useful that XP can't do. A different front end (better/prettier is a matter of opinion) and needing double the system power to go the same speed doesn't impress me I'm afraid. (Same problem with modern cars it seems - I'm struggling to find a small car to replace my 10 year old Nissan Micra - few actually perform as well and with as good or better economy. They all seem to have doubled in weight )
It's quite a dissapointment that MSTS 2 has been cancelled again Hopefully windows 7 will be Alot better than Vista by far. I finnally got my Itunes and Disc drive working at the same time so my Vista is stable...for now
Windows 7 is just a Vista service pack with some interesting interface overhaul. Instead of Vista SP3, we get to buy a new OS so MS can get away from the Mac trashed Vista name.
