Is this illegal under ebay rules? Doesn't seem to be the free market at work!

Also, the high bidder is the same guy on all three items.

    Yup,
The AC9s were simples and while originally coal fired they were later converted to oil and you'd see them with a couple of tender styles. One of which looked alot like the style found behind the ConCor GS4s.

Looks like another final bid in the $1500 USD range.

With five days to go, there's plenty of time for a bidding frenzy.

Stay cool and run steam..... [IMG]

The AC6 is a beautiful engine. I see the grey boiler lagging, but I am not sure this prototypical. Maybe it is a uniform color, but simulates weathering. Beautiful engine.

Wonder how long this thread will be?

Which brings up something I can't quite remember?

Espee took delivery of the AC9 series appx. 1939 (IIRC) and they were shipped cross country w/o side rods but also displaying that small, yet visible, placard affixed to the hand railing along the upper middle boiler run. Now I once read an explanation of this and IIRC that placard said something like 'Prosperity Special'???????

    Anyone recall the details?

Well, on the "prosperity special", wasn't that a "bulk shipment" of new locomotives to the SP from Baldwin - Eddystone works?

Weren't the "Gila Monsters" a Lima Ohio product?

AC9 searches get all hung up in some sqabble over trying to rescue wild birds.

    Prosperity special was likewise non-productive.

In my mind's eye, though, I see 10-coupled, non-articulated steam locos, possibly the 4-10-2's named for their owner? If the special ran earlier in the depression, they might have been 4-8-2's or 2-10-2's. Not GS's though, as they were Lima for sure.

Somebody's got the straight scoop, I hope. I struck out.

    "Found it!"

Gave up on the internet and speed-read a couple books in my library.

Page 78, "The History of the Southern Pacific" Shows a B&W picture of "SMV" - Baldwin's Samuel M Vauclain in his signature derby hat and knee-lenght top coat, standing beside the "Prosperity Special" in July of 1922. The consist is 20 new 2-10-2's. It looks like SP and Baldwin were both in on it as a publicity stunt - Baldwin wanting people to believe the steam loco business is good in Philadelphia, and SP wanting people to believe the railroad business is so good in California, we need 20 more locomotives right away to handle the load.

and they are still not available. It is the one loco missing from my roster too, but the prices are very high. So I would love one too.

There must be a latent demand for these archetypal locos. I know they were very geographically limited, but it would be one steamer that would be really worth getting out the patterns for, I'd have thought. Even the Rivarossi ACs make big sums. It is a shame that Hornby are saying that they are not going to release any Rivarossi N.
