Nice stuff, sure like the pics. Your intermodel yard looks great. You guys are really getting there, have fun. Dave
Thanks Jan. I haven't been to Lesters for a while. I love their big cup of coffee, and their breakfast is good too.
John, couldn't agree more, I head over from Pembroke Pines as well for coffee, pancakes and watch the 8:30ish saturday arrival from the north with my son, hence I did the Ft. Laud yard module for the FEC-N group, as part of the convention (FEC-N is a subgroup of the FEC society) we got an internal tour of the yard and a pair of engines, it was spectacular. be well, Jan
Hey, Is Lester's just down from K-Mart? I use to stay at,I think it was a Motel 6/Super 8 that had a lot big enough for about 8 trucks, right off 95 by the northside of the airport. At the diner I'm thinking of had a HUGE cup of really good coffee.
There may be (or have been a Kmart) down the street to the west on the north side of the street, I can't recall, but you'd know Lesters, its an "old style" diner with the metal outside walls and big picture windows all around, not far off of I-95 and about an exit or two north of Ft. lauderdale airport and by the way, thanks to everyone for the compliments I will pass along to the many people associated with the group (there are roughly 32 modules), and Secret Weapon lots of thanks for the ultimate compliment, you know the area and we got the feel, thats what we strive for! take care, Jan
I found a few more photos on my other memory card from the convention I thought were of sufficient quality: 1) a few of the younger engineers on a looong stone drag 2) a view south from above Cocoa yard 3) a view south from the mainline at Ft. Lauderdale yard
SR 84 is no longer what it used to be. I do remember there used to be a retail place, but I cant remember what it was. A lot of the business west of I 95 are gone. All I can remember there used to a Red Lobster. Jan, your pictures of the modules are awesome. It almost makes me want to be a n scaler, unfortunatly, I love my z.
Good job I just really discovered the FEC recently thanks to the fine article in Trains magazine. You guys really capture that single track speedway through coastal Florida. Great job to all....
FEC in Trains magazine Im new to this Trainboard but reading this,I had to notice that our fine Railroad and our equally fine organization, the Florida East Coast Railway Society, will continue to grow due to excellent modelers in our group, like Jan! Jan encapusalated our convention in these photos, and I look forward to more of you sharing the fun that we do! Max McLeieer, fecNtrak member
Does anyone know what color would be the color to do the new scheme? http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=811207 I have 2 Kato SD40-2s that are in prodution of becoming FEC and an old altlas GP40-2. I also have an Atlas GP40 or GP40-2, I am not sure, That I would like to turn into The new scheme. One last question. Where did those guys get all the TOFCs and spine cars? I am new and already like this place.
The FEC SD40-2's are essentially Armour Yellow as they are former UP locomotives which had the UP lettering and cab numbers painted over and FEC lettering applied. The GP40-2 locomotives are a medium blue, very similar to B&O blue made by Scalecoat. Hope this helps.
bfc1230 - Welcome to Trainboard - you'll like the company here. There is a lot of variety available for N scale Intermodal. I would encourage a visit to the Greenlight Intermodal site for some ideas of what all is available in N scale; www.greenlightintermodal.info sic
BFC, I am working on my secnond "new scheme" GP40-2 right now, and the 1st one you can see in the photos: 438. I use "B&O Royal Blue" Floquil and it is dead on on the gray undec. Atlas unit, plus a reefer white cab roof. All the GP40-2's have roof a/c units (mostly vapor I believe, very few GP's with R/V style) The SD40-2's use R/V style Ac units (mostly!). The GP's also mostly have cab shades. as for the spines and TOFC's, I built most of those! They are nscalekits.com kits, 48' spine cars and 3 89' flats with a mix of MLE and nscalekits hitches. You can get them from nscalekits.com or greenlightintermodal, as Steven posted above, he's got all the nscalekits stuff in stock (I got a bunch of intermodal stuff from him, including most of those UPS trailers you can see). I'll post pictures of the 418 when its done. FEC is a fun road to model, especially if you enjoy modern intermodal. all my best, Jan
jsoflo thanks for the info I can tell my dad what color to use on my engine. My SD40-2s have been strpied of their former roadname and will soon be set to FEC. MY dad and I will have to decide which number we want to do. If you want to model another SD40-2 watch out, Fec also has some snoots. But I think you already know that. jsoflo will we get to see a model of FEC's new SD70M-2s? I would love to model them. SecretWeapon I think you met my dad at the 2007 N-Scale collecters Convention in CT. Your friends with Jerry DeBene. Cool avatar.
OK, Jerry did introduce me to him. I invited him over as long as I was up. If you & him ever want to check out the layout,PM me.
Bob the SD70 looks amazing. Do you have any other pics of just that engine? The 2 I found in Rail Images you could only see to the cab. Also what did you use for a shell of a SD70M-2? Are they "exact" (ya know, for the rivet counters) or just close enough to fool 80% of people? Either way the paint and detail on them looks amazing and I'd $love$ to have a pair... Thanks for sharing, Bob!
