RCU Antenna stands?

I have a set of BLMA RCU antenna stands and I am trying to mount them on a atlas MP15DC cab. I try to get the template on the cab and not have it overhang. I was thinking all I would have to do would be move the template over to match the side of the cab when I have drilled the holes on the other side of the cab. I also looked at pictures of a unit with the antennas on it and can't see a exact match.
This is probably a simple question but I need help.

    Hey there!

Would you happen to have any prototype photos of the unit you're trying to model. If you could please post the image or a link to an image, it would greatly help us determine the exact application and required steps.

As a side note, the drill template provided in the RCL Antenna Stand set is designed for EMD 'Spartan Cab' diesels; others might work, but we cannot be 100% certain.

I am going to be following this one as I have the same BLMA kit and I haven't yet decided how I am going to do it. I just got a photo of a similar unit's roof from an engineer with the road I am modeling.

Craig, what is an EMD "Spartan Cab" diesel. I will be mounting my antennae on an EMD GP38-2. It's got a nice flat surface. Is that what you mean?

Yes, a GP38-2 would have the cab style I'm referring to.

See the following photos (work by Henry Baez) for an example of our stands mounted in place on this particular cab style.

Furthermore, please note that each RCL Antenna Stand set includes the following antenna styles (and more!):

And lastly, a prototype photo for placement reference:

Let me know if there are any questions, and good luck on your projects!

    Nice pictures!

I am going for this loco...

    PNWR 2304

Notice it is nearly impossible to see the antennae. I have been told that it is the same as this one by one of their engineers:

    Cool looking switcher!

It looks like you can use at least some of the guide-holes in the jig; however, you're not going to be able to use the jig exactly as intended. I would suggest at least using the leg spacing holes to get your initial holes drilled correctly, and because this models platforms (stands) don't have legs toward the inside, you can just cut the legs off of the etching and glue the inside of the platform to the roof.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hey all, I just ordered the BLMA kit with great anticipation. My question how or what did you use to model the 4 whip antennas in your photos, I need to model five of these antennas. Just an FYI I am modeling the Belt Railway of Chicago #586.

    Thanks all for any information

I only used the shorter legs for this MP15DC and cut the legs that were closer to the center of the cab so it lays flat like Craig mentioned above. A little glue underneath the flat portion took care of securing it.

I used scrap styrene for the white bases and .010 wire for the whips. Probably overkill, but need it to survive shipment to Australia, so it was over built a little. Once I found the location for the holes, I marked them with a push pin before drilling them with a #83 bit.
