Hi, does somebody tried to make a GP35B unit? And I'm not talking about an ordinary GP35 downgraded to a B-unit because they took out the toilet It's also hard to find any pictures. Does somebody have one?
I'm going out on a limb and say you will be hard pressed to find any photo's of them. I don't have access to my research file at work, but I don't recall any having the cab removed and smoothed over like you see on the GP60's or eve the SD40-2's. I know CSX had B units but they plated over the windows and got rid of a lot of the access doors, others like Santa Fe got rid of the whole shell and turned them into Slugs. But let me finish this and say, if you want one on your pike, do it! I have several GP-35's on my CORP line pretending to be GP-38's so who am I to say you can't. If none were done this way, check out some of the other units converted as a guide. Joe MTL
Its not a B unit, but I built a road slug. I also have a article for the GP30B unit, but I need to find it. Here is a picture of my road slug.
Hi, if somebody can find some pictures would be great. I found a couple of re-classified GP35B where the Cab is still in place but all internal stuff removed. I think the B-units are like High Nose GP35 w/o the Cab part. I will see....
Gerd, Just looking on a whim, I'm seing that cabless GP35's were never built. Some may have ben done as wreck rebuilds (Soo's SD40-2B for instance), but only the GP7, GP9, GP30 and GP60 had B units as far as my research has shown. That's not to say you can't design your own  Hope this helps. Regards, Dan MacKellar
Hi Dan, looks you are right. But a GP30B is very close to a "GP35B" ) The road slug looks good, the prototype was a ex-GP30, or?
Gerd, CSC build the road slug using GP35 and GP30 donors. They are usually mated to a GP40. The crew usually prefer to ride in the slug, because its quiet. There is no noice or vibration associated with a prime mover.
