Roger, that's beautiful! On the other hand, it makes me want to cry that we don't have one left to go stroke. Apparently the Niagaras got out west pretty regularly. :tb-sad:
NIAGRA locomotives were relegated to LINES WEST as DIESEL operstions progressed from the EAST. In this pic you'll note the double headlights...which dates the picture, and the loco.NIAGARA series were restricted to EAST of MATTOON on the ILL DIVISION acct weight restrictions on the bridges across the MISSISSIPPI. LINES WEST from BFLO to CHGO also were the realm of NIAGARA's in this same time frame. The 5400, 3000, and 2900 series were all working the BIG FOUR [ as well as 2100, etc] when I went to the KOREAN conflict in 1951. ALL WERE GONE in 1956....LARRY BAGGERLY
