It's always a good sign when the painting starts. Looks like the wheels have been painted along with the air pumps and shields. :tb-biggrin:

I had the same thought. While there is a lot more to be done, these tasks quietly mark a big step toward the end goal.

They should be a big help to your crew. The Cup Holder is hilarious. Who woulda thunk? Long before the SUV crowd demanded them, eh? :tb-biggrin:

je ne sais quoi (French) I believe it translates as "I do not know what."

I can't wait to see that swedging machine in action. Hope it works perfectly, the first try.

Looking Good, Kevin! Those rods look great, as does the paint on the fireman's side drivers. Wish I lived closer, and yes, we wish you the best with the open house and hope some folks contribute to the cause. Once you get the tubes and flues in and the running gear reassembled when Timken returns the bearings, I think the restoration will go a lot faster, when rebuilding. You guys sure cleaned up and rebuilt everything that came off. I appreciate the photos, and it shows everyone how massive steam parts are, nothing is light, like that feedwater pump--that's the cold pump, right? :tb-biggrin:

Man, the front end looks good. With the pilot all painted up, will it be installed as well? I didn't word my question about the feedwater pump very well. I think the 2900s had Worthington FW heaters, right? If so there was a cold water pump somewhere between the tender and the smokebox, and a hot water pump near the smokebox/heat exchanger. :tb-biggrin:

Yes there is a coldwater pump under the cab, Firemans side. In my case it was a matter of "not seeing" something that is allways there, grin. It is a zoo here, balloon fiesta is ongoing, and the open house was a great sucess. (Pictures in the next message)

    Regards,
    Kevin

As someone who was a grade school boy living one block from the mainline on the old ATSF Slaton (Texas) Division during the 50's, and listened to his conductor Dad tell me about those "29-hunnerds" performance as i stood wide eyed next to those 80" drivers, all I can say is thank you all. Your work is art on a massive scale.

I'll second Ken's "outstanding!" Looks like you folks put on quite a show, and the front end looks like she would be ready to roll tomorrow! This is an effort that merits a lot of support. I intend to order some stuff soon. Rebuilding a 2900, arguably one of the best 4-8-4s ever built, is a monster project and you folks are doing it right. I can't wait to see her actually run and hopefully might even be there. :tb-biggrin:
