The results are with Polly Scale paints (dirt, I believe) and a small Testors brush. Took about 10min. Both regular painting & drybrushing.

Great job Paul. Looking forward to seeing a few blue Mopac MP15DCs from you when Atlas releases them. I'll have to get a few undec myself, although I'll hold out that they'll offer a Jenks Blue version in the future.

I am curious as to what you guys use on the handrails. I looked in past post and found that Mopac3092 used Krylon Fusion this worked ok but can still flake off. I guess I am just the type that strives for perfection and does not want it to come off at all. Anyway just thought I would ask.

As of current my Mopac fleet consist of

    4 SD40-2 NDB "Kato"
2 SD40-2 DB (in the paint shop) "Kato"
4 GP35 (in the shop for decoders) "Atlas"
    2 GP38 "Atlas"
2 U30C (in the shop for decoders) "Kato"
    2 B23-7 "Atlas"
    1 E Unit A "Kato"
    1 E Unit B "Kato"
    2 SW1200 "Life Like"

For now that is the fleet as I get more engines it will grow. I will post pictures soon of the roster.

paul i have now been trying fascolor paints which is made for the rc car racing hobby, it is used to paint the lexan bodies and is very flexible when dried however it still can come off when abused. a few years ago i heard of someone making paints with teflon in them, which is what the handrails are made off, it was solely for doing handrails and parts made from teflon, the last i heard it was available in red, white and yellow.

While I have an affinity for the Mopac I only have one piece so far? It's an M/T with MicroScale decals still needing weathering and a clearcoat. But I had to buy the MS 'asst' decal sheet when I saw Mopac on it!

    Kiz,
The WP also used the optional full length rails on their switchers and I found that you can pirate a portion from a Trainmaster model, cut em in height and length to make 'em fit pretty well. It's alot easier than other alternatives.

Oh, that one's not finished in that picture either?

Thanks for sharing the Mopac shots- we usually don't get to see too many of 'em, huh?

    Colonel,
That's because we model different eras! For me it's still in revenue service. Um, I guess it hasn't even come out of the shop yet actually????? [IMG]

    Thanks,

What I'm really wanting to improve my MP roster with is an Intermountain FT or maybe a Spectrum 2-8-0 or 4-8-2. One of those hauling a string of 20 boxcars would be cool...

In the early 80's (b4 UP was in the Powder River coal fields) we had quite a few MP SD40's (without dynamic brakes) in pool power. At one time all the helper sets on Crawford Hill were blue MP SD 40's. This lasted a few weeks. I suppose until MP found out.

It was an interesting sight going through Crawford and seeing 10 or 11 blue MP SD's and no BN units. If one wasn't familiar with things one would have thought the line through Crawford was MP!

There are pictures of this but I can't locate which book.

    Hey Paul,
The hoppers are 5-bay Ortners owned by Union Electric (UCEX) and then by Kerr McGee Coal (KMCX).

Mopac ran these from the coal fields in Southern Illinois to Eastern Missouri power plants and also from Colorado via the D&RGW at Pueblo, which is why I added a pair of pooled power Rio Grande SD40T-2s to the roster.

I painted the UCEX cars myself and printed the reporting marks on laser decal paper. Data, lube plates and ACI tags were from Microscale sets.

I also have the Trainworx quad hoppers in Mopac, whcih are fairly true to the prototype as well:

Paul, did you scratchbuild your diesel sanding/fuel rack? Can you tell me which company made it?

Glad to see the Mopac thread alive and well!

Thanks Tim looks like I'll have to get me some of those trainworx hoppers.

The sand and fuel rack is a bachmann kit, you can still find these on ebay.
