Okay, well, it's been awhile since I promised to post a paint scheme. I blame it on feeling pretty ill from my treatment. I've come up with several possible paint schemes (out of 24!) for my new fictional railroad. There were some I briefly considered, but then reconsidered when I thought of painting them. The new herald, shown at the far left, will be on the nose as well as on the side of the B-unit. How about voting for your favorite and helping me pick? Just count from the left and tell whether you like #1, 2, 3, or 4 the best. (See the poll above this post).
I like the third one the best. Having said that I'd suggest you do as many of each scheme as you'd like, thinking that a new company president came on board and decided to change the image a bit and your railroad is in that "in between" stage where not all of the equipment has been repainted into the "new" scheme.
i like the fourth because of the touch of red, but like the others i would suggest at least two different styles.
They all look great and a bit complicated to do a fleet in . Have you first thought over how any of those schemes will be applied , and how they will look on other bodies , geeps , sharks , sw's , etc ? With a light colored roof , weathering is an absolute must .
I too like #3 with the red stripe. But I like the name "New Mexico Central" better than "New Mexican Central" Brian (Please deposit $.02 below)
Darn. Hah! I managed to post a picture that hadn't been fixed. It is, of course, New Mexico Central. :tb-biggrin:
Just an aging combine. Maybe even a tourist flatcar. This is a railroad that, instead of folding as it really did in the early days of steam, managed to stay alive. That is why I have to invent a color scheme: it never had one. In my fantasy, it bought the Chili Line from the D&RGW, which is what I will model, and built a road over the right-of-way that the D&RGW had developed up the Chama river to Gallina, but it was only a small branch line. Though the NMC has managed to stay afloat quite nicely and has other routes, this particular branch has always been small-time and unimportant as far as passengers go. That being said, they were still important to the NMC! Mainly it carries commodities such as chiles, beans, coal, wood, and alabaster.
I won't have a real fleet, just a couple of engines. (See my explanation earlier in this thread). There will definitely be a switcher and a GP-7, but probably not much more than that. Most of the roads on my layout will belong to the AT&SF. I definitely need to start thinking about a GP-7 and an SW. I hadn't thought about the light-colored roof. Weathering on the whole is going to look a little odd on this railroad, because it runs through huge areas of red Dakota sandstone. The most important things to me were that the nose had a blue area where I could put the herald, and that it was easy to paint. (Okay, somewhat easy). After your reply I tried what I could to come up with a blue roof, but this was as good as it got. I'm up in the air about it, because it's harder to paint.
Thank you Michael! Now I just have to find paints that I can use. I figured (Floquil Pollyscale) CSX Yellow mixed with white and brown, Conrail Blue mixed with white, and DTI Cherry Red. I'm a little unsure because I can't really tell anything from color charts on the Internet.
Ya, what he said. I also Prefer New Mexico Central better. It refers to the place, not the people. New Mexican Central sounds more like a news paper or political publication.
It does, doesn't it? :tb-biggrin: However, it was just an error, kind of like spelling things wrong. It has been corrected.
There's a problem with all your schemes except #1. They're obviously meant to be EMD-designed for F- or E-units. According to http://paintshop.railfan.net/paint_scheme_design.html the color separation along the top of the cab windows is not a standard EMD element. If you want a yellow-beige roof, I'd try a UP/GN-style "loop behind horn". Most likely, the NMC would apply the same colors, but without the Loewy curve - just a "layer cake". Think about the DL&W/EL. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=167036 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=100577 Then again, the Algoma Central used the DL&W/EL scheme, but applied the cab unit version to hood units... http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=141588
