I have been on the lookout for a few of these yet it seems nobody makes them for the SP. I have seen a few for different roads but even if repainted I don't think the units would look very good. I think its Model Power that has one but would waste my time on them. Does anybody know a source for a nice model that I could at least start with. I will repaint and detail if neccessary. Many thanks on any info provided.
The auction site's are your best bet. Train shows are a good source as well. Con-Cor made one appropriate for C30-4/5 classes, but needs a bit of work. Model Power made a C40-4/5 class, makes a nice model, but takes a lot of work. Your best bet would be the old Atlas bay window. Also class C40-4/5 but with more scale proportions. I believe it was sold under Aroura in the late 60's. Kinda funny that the 40 year old tooling is the best for SP bay windows. Good luck Here's my Model Power rebuild.
John, I've got an old ConCor SP body only that I was about to toss. If you want it PM me an address nd I'll send it to you. George
Bob, thanks for the link but I do not see a bay window. I think the C-30's had the cupola so I guess I should have left that out of the original post.
I was lucky enough to pick up four Overland cabeese at the Springfield show. One was the Kodachrome version, one Railroad Police, one C-40, and one C-50 for an unbelieveable price. I'd like to find more now. Rich
Class C30-4/5/6, C40-4/5/6/7, C50-2/3/4/5/7/8/9/10 were all bay windows. A correction to my post, the Con-Cor bay window is only correct for C30-4 class as C30-5/6 had diagonal panel roofs.
Here is a Con Cor that I painted up for T&NO. They were first painted with vermilion red ends before they got orange car ends and bay window ends.
Thanks Joe! You just woke me up about my C30-(6)--I missed a little detail about the roof. I guess my Con-Cor is up for a renumber.I had numbered it 1334. I will change it into the 1235-1269 series for a C-30-4. This is why I like this site so much. Great info. Thanks again, Wolf
I will have a cupola C-30-1, a bay window C-30-4 and a cupola C-40-3 in etched brass kits at the Anahiem NTS. The C-40-3 is 40% done now. Although not Espee's, A DRGW Nn3 34ft Stockcar is 90% done.
That is great news. I will be at the Anaheim Convention and will look forward to seeing them. I am in the middle of sprucing up an old Concor and an Atlas C-30-4 right now.
Here is the old Atlas one in case anyone's wondering. I#ve not done anything to it yeat other than new trucks and MT couplers.
Absolutely beautiful job on that rebuild (and repaint)! Your caboose is just as nice (if not nicer) than any brass offering I've seen. ryan
I belive ER imported the Roco version of the Aurora SP bay window. It came with the radio plate and other details but the bays were cast into the main body. They are much nicer then the Model Power cars and are pretty easy to find. I have four that have been detailed to look more Conrail-like. There were available commercially as late as 2004. BTW, I'm now hording the Walthers Southern (single window bay) cabs for the same reason
I have a bunch of these cabooses of all types converted using the Gold Medal Models details. Unfortunately, at the time I made them, I didn't know about all the SP specific details, so most of them are just plain vanilla stuff. Later, I found out about the details and added frog eye lights, wheel antennas, etc. to more recent conversions, but I never went back and corrected the older models. Here is a link to my RailImages album that is all cabooses.
Nice rebuild that you did on that Model Power. Yes C30 are difficult to find Repaint is about the only option that I know of also. I'm about to do a Walthers Chessie over myself
