Well I have finally gotten the room done and the benchwork has started.I am modeling the CSX Chattanooga Subdivision which will be from Nashville's Radnor yard to Chattanooga's Wauhatchie Yard.I have a track plan listed below which still has some work to do on the sidings and yards but more or less is complete. It is a 16 x 24 foot two level layout.I know some of you are wondering why I have a CN avatar by my name and I will explain.I live on the CSX line which I love the scenery and know it well.I was also given the CSX schematics of the line which has helped me in my planning and you tend to model what you know. Now in the past year I have fallen in love with the Canadian railroads which will explain the avatar so my layout will have a twist.I will have the Chattanooga Sub with Canadian National and Canadian Pacific railroads running on it.Some people have laughed at me but thats the good thing of owning your own railroad is that you can do what you want.I will post more photos as I progress.I hope to have the benchwork complete in about three weeks as long as I can figure out my helix.Enjoy

    TBone,
I love it. That is a great area to model, very interesting area. I have spent a fair amount of time up around there visiting my brother in Murfreesboro and the operations around Chattanooga are very interesting. Seems by my brother there are autorack after autorack after-you get the picture. With those mountains and yards and industries, should be a fun layout.

As for the CN CP issue, I think its great, they both have striking paint schemes. Also, as a CP fan and member of a CP group I get photos regularly of CP locos down in Georgia so while I am sure you see a steady stream of CSX power (that and NS was all I saw around Murfreesboro), it is not far fetched to imagine run through and borrowed power coming in from memphis (CN).

Keep us informed, I would love to see this come together!
    my best,

Jan it is funny you say that.I live in Murfreesboro as well and you are right, all I see is CSX and UP from time to time.I do not see any NS though but every now and then we get the pleasure of a BNSF unit.

Next time you get up here you are always more than welcomed to come and run on the layout.(When its finished of course)

Since you haven't built it yet why not build a canadian railroad scene instead? Why stick with the old area when you have a new interest? ....dave

As I stated you tend to model what you know and I love the scenery around here.

I think it's a really neat idea. While I grew up in Wisconsin, I have lived the past couple years in the Nashville area while finishing up school at MTSU. When I first moved here in July 2005, I got an apartment that overlooked the line you model in Antioch. I could never get into the railfanning too much as CSX doesnt really appeal to me. Good luck and let me know if you need a hand. I am about 45 minutes north of the 'Boro.

    TBone,
Thanks for the invite, might just do so at some point!

As I recall all the NS I saw was down around Chattanooga, in Murfreesboro it was all CSX, I also recall a couple CSX Geep switchers based out of an old depot. From the sound of the horns it seems a pretty steady stream through the area also.

I wouldn't change your chosen location for anything, anyone who has seen the terrain coming off the central plateau into eastern Tennessee and climbing around the river, its spectacular. And as you said, its your RR, and your trackplan and room look like they will guarantee a lot of fun, I'm jealous of all that room, nothing like that in space starved South Florida!!

    take care,
    Jan
