Hi all, when reading all these posts, I came to the conclusion that you all have very interesting but also so different kind of jobs. My job is has quite to do with 1:1 railroads; I am a train engineer / driver for BLS AG in Switzerland! This picture has been taken from a railroad fan and happens to be the only picture of me @ work I was able to see and get a copy of it. :tb-cool: Daniel
My 25 years in broadcasting will essentially come to an end tomorrow - much earlier than expected. I have no personal desire to leave it but I have been offered a different kind of job that will pay better and offer a new level of security. Although I thought that this was a possibility for the future, I was not expected for it to happen this fast. So, tomorrow will be my last day at the radio station and I will start a new job on Monday. Needless to say, this is quite difficult to go through and I'm not sure what's on the other side. Charlie
Charlie, Sometimes it's hard to embrace new opportunities, but it always seems to work out. I made a huge change in my lifestyle and income (downwards) to be able to be home more with my kids and it was the best decision I ever made. I don't get to play at Disney World anymore, but I get to play with trains and my kids (much better). I think things are going to work out just fine and you'll look back and see that the change was a good one. Joe MTL
Daniel, I think you win for coolest job! I love the photo you sent. I have been waiting for Marklin to offer the BLS version of these loks. I am still wating.... I would love to have a rolling road in Z scale. It is really a neat train. Rob
Playing Beethoven's 5th for your sign off there Charlie. Got the test screen ready on the Amateur TV. ...-.- .
I work in the UK for a FTSE 100 company whose core business is Business Process Outsourcing. My role is as a Business Solutions Architect which essentially means I''m responsible for defining and designing IT solutions to support identified business requirements and then implementing them - mostly local and central government clients. More for less is the mantra of the day
Thanks Rob! Since last december we run the "rolling highway" train with the Re465 locos, no longer with grey/green Re485's. Maerklin does offer a 465 in z scale with advertising for the "BLS alptransit Lötschberg", the 36km long base tunnel through lötschberg mountain. Märklin 88464, Re 465 "Alptransit" BLS, NEU Spur Z/300d - eBay.ch (endet 18.02.08 19:00:00 MEZ) but there are still no cars with trucks on it :tb-sad: to Charlie: I can only forward what Joe already wrote and send you my best wishes for your start at your new job on monday morning!! Greetings, Daniel
Oh boy...well, I've been a college Chemistry prof, Nuclear chemist, and Physiology research associate, all in the last year. I'm now still the research associate, but I also design trains with Tony B. for NASM. So, at least half time, I'm like Joe...(hehehe)
Guess I'll add my job to the list. I manage a pawn/gun shop that my family owns. I also do a little farming (saw that was missing from the list). I might change jobs, as I have an application in with three different railroads. I also get to volunteer on a 36" gauge steam railroad during the summer and christmas time as a fireman/engineer in training, but I guess that doesn't count as it doesn't pay. In the past I have been a deckhand, fitter/welders helper, mechanic/oil change tech, and grinder in a foundry.
I'm a lucky guy. Beside trainZ, I'm a bridge builder between architects, interior designers and our custom millwork manufacturing plant. It's actually my full time job to make sure the designer's dream comes thru, I do all the necessary engeneering steps to build interiors like this, and many more: AM Cabinets Lajos
As my sig says, I am a trainman on the Union Pacific- currently I am working as a conductor on the West Colton to Yermo Pool over world famous Cajon Pass!
I guess I have to throw my 5 cents in too. I am currently active as a real estate developer and I have an automotive group based in Oslo, Norway. I have also had careers in the Army, the Oil and Newspaper industry and reading about other careers, yes I grew up with Roland and Goss printing presses. Rail Miniatures (aka AZL) is my other job with Rob A. in D.C. Actually the company goes back to 1993 when I started out with H0e steam trains. Hans
