BNSF is adding a third main line from the BP Refinery in Sugar Creek east to somewhere around Eton, where the UP River Sub begins. Straightening of some curves in Sugar Creek is on the menu also.
Thanks for the information Jeff. I have in-laws in Blue Springs. When I go to visit I go out to CA JCT and points east to railfan.
Sorry about the confusion. Sugar Creek, MO is a small community east of Kansas City. The Transcon line runs through it with a double track line. UP also uses this line to access it's river subdivision. Eton is actually only a control point and not a town, so it doesn't generally show up on a map. The contractor doing the work on this project told me that the third main line will run from the old Standard oil refinery location (now BP) in Sugar Creek to several miles east of Missouri Hwy 291 (also in Sugar Creek) and that in the process they will be removing some curves that have required slower speeds. I don't know what curves he is referring to but hey, if the trains go through faster, I'm all for it! I will keep track of what is going on and report on my web site.
Hey Jeff- We are moving to KC in July, looking forward to the move, might hit you up for ideal railfan sites, and Hobby shops. Brad
