ARMN was one of the marks for American Refrigerator Transit, a joint subsidiary of MoPac and Wabash (later N&W). In the heyday, most of their cars carried heralds for both of the parent roads as well as the ART shield. Hope this clarifies!
Thanks, Eagle 2. I have heard of that. I have model ART refrigerator cars with those logos but the reporting marks are RMDX. Interesting that these ARMN reporting marks have survived.
Nice shot Steve. Where was this at? Flash - While I won't claim this is a complete list, some of the marks I've found for ART are: ARMH, ARMN, ART, LOCX, MLCX, MODX and WADX. Alphabet soup?
I see these just north of Tuscon, on the UP line of course. I have 4 different shots so far; that one is graffitti-free. I didn't know about the connection with Mopac either.
Those are some awesome photos. I haven't been fourtunate to seen any buzzsaws or Eagles around where I live. I will keep looking. These brought back memories
I wasn't aware that Mopac had racks like that. Did they ever use the close topped? I only remember seeing the open racks way back in the early 70's
MP "doghouse" road caboose 13731, in front of Katy depot in Denison, TX, on display with mostly MKT stuff.
Outstanding work gentlemen...keep em coming.Love the converted boxcar house. How cool would it be to build a layout in there? Actually neat,I really don't think it would be very cool inside....
Atomic - the sources I have show both open and closed top cars, including early open side ones, either owned or leased (TT flats) by MoPac Hemi - this car was photographed in Sep '01. Given the location, it was used to move HMMWV's and similar sized vehicles to and from Ft Carson.
