Looks like I'll be going to Lou'vuhl!

But... I haven't made any reservations yet. The Galt is booked... Is the Marriott or Hyatt still booked for that other convention... and is it going to be really expensive?

Any other suggestions for nearby hotels... relatively affordable ($100 night). Is there parking at the convention center and how much does it cost?

EDIT: Just checked Priceline, Travelocity/Hotels.com... and found many affordable hotels under $100/night... but... not too sure if they are in safe areas. Hyatt is $152/night... Marriott Downtown is even higher... yet the Courtyard Marriott is $119 and is near the KICC. If you know of a particularly good nearby place to stay a couple of nights... let me know.

Oh... and if you happen to see this loser... please refrain from harpooning or firing your elephant gun at him. :D

SAFE AREAS?!!? We don't have any more crime around here than any other place.

You might check out So Indiana(shameless plug here!) Holiday Inn @812-283-1601 ask for Becky. Sheraton 812-284-6711. A little high $142.00 a night, but to each his own.

There are several local owned motels in the area north of the river. Motel 6, Hampton, and others. If you don't have to stay right down town your choice of lodging expands.

I'm a local KSONS member and will be working at DCE, so watch for MARK the Answer man.

Things aren't great around where I live... wouldn't recommend any of the nearby hotels near me. :(

Ooooooo... I can visit two different states in one trip!

I still haven't been west of... or seen the Mississippi River... nor the Ohio River for that matter.

Sure hope the Ohio River won't do anything like the Mississippi River has done to those poor folk in the midwest... very sad :(.

    Joe,

In addition to Mark's suggestions, the Hyatt and Marriott are next door to KICC, Courtyard is a couple blocks away but still in a nice area. Parking can be had in many nearby lots.

Check-out our website for additional details.

I'm here at the Galt House now, just checked in. I'm typing this from the 3rd floor lobby bar area via Wi-Fi.

By the way, I have two samples of Randy Gustafson's critters (his resin kits, built
up by the Randgust himself) with me for sharing and display:

    - the Whitcomb 65-tonner, you'll be able to see it at the Model Contest room

    - the GE 70-tonner (painted up in Southern Pacific), which will be running on the N Trak layout, and available for viewing most anytime you see me

I'll also have a few of my stuff around too.

I'll be on the Layout Tour on Wed AM. Photos to follow sometime late Wed evening. :)

Hope to see many of you soon.

I talked the doctor into giving me a few days leave from the institution. as long as I stay on my medication I'm OK. Look for the sorta insane looking guy in the C&O hat. OK, maybe that first part is a bit untrue. Actually my wife is the one allowing me the time to go. But she is coming too! Yup, gonna have the little woman with me....literally!! She is 4'10"!!!

Well... I'm not too sure of the hotel I ended up with... The Brown... about 7 blocks form KICC. Any notable comments... before I regret having booked it? It was $120 night for an 'alleged' 4 star hotel. Unfortunately the other hotels closer to KICC were $150+ with the Galt (coming in at $175 now). Wife unit will be with me too... had to find 'Classy' hotel for her. "Can't just stay at any Motel Six when going on a vacation", she says. I hope The Brown qualifies as one.... as the Zagat Survey... seems to indicate. I've seen some of these 'alleged' 4 star properties here in MiaMuh... which were more like dungeons of horrors.... and overpriced.

So... there is no actual parking 'within' the KICC? Only nearby parking lots? I really hope there is something really close... knee and back problems will give me fits:lightning: if I have to do lots of walking. :we-frown:

There's parking garages and lots all around the place. Some have skywalks to the convention center. The show and layout are on the second floor in the part that is between 2nd and 3rd streets.

The Brown is one of the finest hotels in Louisville. $120 is a bargain!! It deserves at least 4 stars. A trolly runs from the Brown to KICC, and it is only 3 blocks, not 7. Don't miss out on the lobby bar - it is a great place to unwind.

Paul Downs of KSONS has set up a web site for all N Scale Convention attendees to share and view photos at. I post copies of my photos there too.

    Go to:
