Ross Balderson, who built amongst many other things the Mad Max diorama, is building a magnificent model of Sydney Central (c1958) electric lines in N scale. It is an absolute jaw dropper even though it's still a work in progress. More photos here: CMNSG Gallery :: Sydney Central 1958 Cheers David
What no opera house and no Harbor Bridge??? Ain't the Sydney I visited! Still an inspiration to see what people accomplish. Some very nice modeling.
Considering from where I'm sitting right now overlooking Central station I can do a comparison between the prototype and the model, very impressive indeed
It certainly looks accurate to me. It even has the gazebo. I used to rail fan there especially in the winter time. It was easy to reach by train and it was warm inside. You could also see some rail fan excursions on weekends. It sure brings back some fond memories and a great model, too!
It's been there longer than the other two combined, just at the other end of town. I saw this diorama at the Brisbane N Scale National Convention back in '05 when it didn't have the (Belmore) park scene added. Very impressive then, even moreso now. All that would be missing is the smell of hops from Tooth's Brewery, the large brown building to the left, now gone (thankfully!).
It Surely is Museum Standard I'm biased but I think Ross's work on Central approaches the life work HO layout of Rod Stewart that was in ModelRailroader. I think this is one of the rare layouts which shows the true potential of N Scale and will with time do much to inspire future modellers. To give an idea of the scale of Ross's work here is the current station map http://www.cityrail.com.au/facilities/maps/Central.pdf I would certainly hope that Ross would consider it going on permanent display at Central Station in Sydney once he has done the Australian exhibition circuit with it. I certainly think the appropriate authorities, should approach him to sponsor its exhibition and a permanent home for it prominently in the concourse window at the Rail Heritage Centre. One would hope that the Cityrail/CountryLink, the City of Sydney and NSW government could eventually approach Ross with an appropriate offer he can't refuse. cheers, Chris
Are most of your engines US repaints, or do you have Aussie prototype engines? I would be VERY VERY interested in a source for Aussie engines.
Most are Australian diesel locos in N scale are locally produced white metal or urethane body kits designed to fit onto off the shelf (usually Atlas) mechs. Steam loco kits are usually designed for Japanese (e.g. Micro Ace) mechs. There is an All Time List of Australian rollingstock which is or has been available in N scale. Cheers David
WOW, OUTSTANDING!!:tb-cool: By te way that's my only suggestion. That you left out OUTSTANDING in your vote options
