Okay... I'll mention which ones I would REALLY want... FM H-10-44.... Rio Grande had three of them Baldwin VO-660... Rio Grande had LOTS of them SW-1000.... Sort of late for "my Rio Grande era" but they had several.** Alco S-2.... I have the Arnold ones which need an overhaul... betters one would be nice though. EMC NW-2... Still waiting for Kato to make the 'one' Rio Grande had. EMD SD-45.... Kato never made them in Rio Grande scheme Krausse-Maffei ML4000 diesel-hydrolic ANY Nn3 locomotives in D&RGW... (but preferably K-27 & K-36 class) **BTW... I've extended my modeling era to accomodate lots of other stuff (Tunnel Motors, SD50, Challengers... etc)
As long as I don't change my fricking era or locale again, pretty well done. Whew, thats costly, but I think the mfgs put something in my morning cereal that makes me think modeling something else would be cool. I love diesels and tend to buy them, and have a terminal road theme to run more and more paint schemes. So, while I thought I was done, pretty much, Atlas came out with Harbor Belt and Belt Railway of Chicago units, and I was back off to the races. Over time, I think the desire to buy it all diminshes, which, in combination with fewer folkes entering the hobby is probably the reason Tony's recent ad says loco runs have dropped from tens of thousands to mere thousands in the last few years. I have even been able to pass up the much wanted SD 45-2 and place only a reduced order of 3 for the upcoming 8-40-C from Atlas.
I try to stick to the UP, SF, and SP but i will run anything that catches my eye. I really like super power steam so i have the Athearn Challenger, Big boy and i have ordered the IM cab forward. Of course there are many other steam engines that are on my list if ever made like the C&O H-8, C&O H-7, Class A, Erie triplex. I even ordered the Kato GG1 and the 15 cars, so my answer to the question is most likely never. Dave
cp rail has over 400 ac-4400. i'm currently stuck at 90+ units.... all with different roadnumbers of course.
I consider 8+ of every prototype is a healthy roster for each railroad. I have SP, SF, UP, 90's style. So, besides the 10 SF six axle B units, 8 or more will be the norm. A lot of my motive power will be customs.
I was set....running UP 50's. Then hmm well SP makes a perfect mate.....hmmm well I love reefers and the ATSF reefers are nice...ok well add some ATSF super chief, reefers etc. Ok I am set... These modern diesels are cool and I see them every day on my way to work... and my son loves them..... Ok current day BNSF, UP and 50's era UP, SP, and ATSF Then there are the Dream designs Grand canyon lines, and Camp Verde diesels....hmm The only problem with that is the makes almost all engines fair game...so continue buying NEVER DONE
I imagine that more road specific locomotives will be done in the future and since I'm in this hobby for the long haul, I imagine that my roster will continue to grow, but at a much much slower pace. Still, even 1 or 2 locomotives over the next 30 years = 60 engines....Hmmm maybe I'm not as done as I thought I was. Crud, I forgot about all of those SP first generation diesels... Of course, my rolling stock numbers grow and will continue to do so with every visit to the LHS.
I'll have to chime in.. Did someone ask for AS-616's? Cabs and boosters, please. I'll keep going 'till I have a few examples of every SP loco. (Yeah right). In other words--NEVER. Have a good one, Wolf
Oh you had to open that can of worms! I'm at the point now where I am "trading up" rolling stock...replacing with better quality stuff, newer versions, etc....or upgrading what I currently have with etched details and FVM wheels. I've also started thinning out my collection with the thought that I'm probably not going to have that dream layout that supports 32 car trains anytime soon. So I'm "rightsizing" my car counts accordingly down to 24 car trains, max. But, there are still many new freight car models that would probably draw me in, funds permitting. Just for comparison's sake, I have an informal goal of limiting locomotive chassis' to 30* and rolling stock to 450.** If I ever have a need for more than 30 locomotives or 450 cars in an operating session then it means I have a layout of such magnitude that the financial reason for the limit in the first place would obviously no longer be an issue. :-D *I say "locomotive chassis" because I have a few that will perform double duty with interchangeable shells to mix things up without dinging the budget so much. For example, I have two BN SD40-2's, but I also have an NS SD40-2 shell that can be swapped on one of those chassis for a lease/pool unit for one operating session if desired. I have two Atlas Dash 8-40BW's that can house any combination of Santa Fe SWB, BNSF SWB, or BNSF HII shells. **A little over half of the 450 is unit coal, grain, and tank cars. Intermodal cars are counted by platform.
I AM done. There is nothing short of an HH660 that will get me to spend anymore money on locomotives or rolling stock. I have everything the NP had the for era and I dont' need anything else unless one day, a connecting line gets added. There is a UP tie in where freight is exchanged and the UP has trackage rights. I have a little 4-4-2 and a few 2-8-0's for that interchange and I can't see anything else coming this way. With the exception of those Alco HH660's, which it seems no one wants to make, I've got all I need. The next moves are for buildings, scenery. Rapido's attached telehone poles and a way to put up some catenary that smacks of the fifties. I've got enough to keep me busy for the next 5-6 years.
I will have to go with never as well.I have a little of CSX,Southern Pacific,Union Pacific,NYC,Santa Fe,BN,BNSF,Canadian National,Canadian Pacific, and probably some others that I cant remember. My name is TBONE and I am an NSCALEAHOLIC.
As soon as Kato or Atlas makes a AC60CW, or maybe ES44DC, or a ES44AC, even a SD70ACe, or a SD70-M2, maybe a MP15T or AC, how about a GP49-2, guest it will never be complete.
I'm waiting on cash for a big-boy but outside of that I'll join the Never-Never Group. There is always one more loco to buy. See ya Ron
For me steam really is NOT of primary emphasis ... but the Little Woman likes them because she loves watching the siderods move.:tb-cute: My roster lists: 1 Bachmann GN lettered Heavy Mountain 4-8-2 1 Bachmann Unlettered 2-8-0 3 Con Cor GN S2 4-8-4's (1 in black/silver; 2 in Glacier Green) 2 Athearn Unlettered Clinchfield type Challenger 4-6-6-4's 3 Kato GN lettered Mikado type 2-8-2's (one fitted with a CC S2 Vandy tender) 1 Kato GS4 4-8-4 #4449 On order: 1 IMR Unlettered AC-12 Cab forward 4-8-8-2. Once the IMR AC-12 arrives, that will round out my steam acquisitions. BUT ... If I could get my wish: 1 NP Yellowstone 2-8-8-4 (o/t brass) would be FANTASMAGORICAL!!!!! :tb-cool:
Alco high hood switchers! I knew I forgot something on my list, Santa Fe kept some running into the sixties so I'll need them in blue/yellow and zebra stripes please if any manufacturers are listening.:tb-biggrin:
For many of our customers it will be if their spouse ever finds out how much they have already spent. Or if the spouse sees the next purchase come in the door.
As far as that goes - guys - when dreaming of how cool that new $200 loco will look hauling your passenger fleet - imagine as well how wonderful your partner would look in a nice new spring outfit. - not to mention the points you will get for it.
now imagine your better half with that brand new spring outfit... on her hands and knees.... pulling your passenger cars around your layout.........yikes.... just think of all the damage to the roadbed
No just remember how comfee the couch is. because thats where I'll be tonight when I get home from my LHS. As for loco roster I'm changing era's right now so never.
