Lately I've been exploring a different side of the hobby. My wife paints, so I thought I'd try my hand at it until motivation kicks in to work on the layout: I still have some work to do, but you get the idea. Hmmm...I wonder if UP registered the Mopac chevrons? Maybe I could make a lithograph or two (as long as I don't have any licensing issues to worry about )
Tim, that's excellent I have not got the talent to paint. You going through a similar phase as me? I've basically done no modelling for the past 6 months and still not finding any motivation as yet.
Thanks Paul & Flash! We sound similar, Paul. I can go for months without touching the layout, then I go crazy on it for a week straight. I enjoy building and painting locos more than working on the layout.
Great work Tim! Ahhhh...if only you had done it in orange and white! You definitely have a talent my friend! Display that with pride! Chad
Thanks Guys! You know Chad, if I could spare a few N-scale SD40-2s, I'd love to have a few in orange and grey ICG. Not IC, but close. If I model a freelance road, the early IC or ICG would be a good starting point.

What a @#$%ed - UP railroad
Actually since it is a painting or art if you will, then I don't believe it would be covered under their rules. Also as I understand it, (According to an article in Trains) since it is one person and not a company per se then you would be fine. :tb-cool:
Sorry about that...the pic wasn't in my railimages album for some reason... It ain't Picasso, but it's a cheap way to fill wall space.
Thanks Hemi. Yep! I was going for a Warhol effect of sorts, something contemporary to balance the other stuff. But - it was also easier than trying to paint for realism. The canvas is 24x30. I took an 8x10 photo, marked out a 1" sqare grid pattern and and sketched it out at 3:1 on a 3" square grid on the canvas, which really helped in keeping the proportions. I used the same blue, but made it darker with Payne's grey or lighter with titanium white for the lighting effect. So, I didn't need a deep art background to pull this off. It was a good diversion. In retrospect, I could have painted a road number that's a bit more significant, like the last Mopac SD40-2 (6073).
