uncoupling magnets

    hi gents,
    im going to use permanent magnets to do delayed uncoupling.
    can i use the HO scale kadee magnets (cheaper than the n scale) or are they to strong.
    radioshack is no longer here so no rare earth magnets local.

    My Dad has one under his HO tracks, and an HO car with metal axles gets trapped in the field and sticks in place after vibrating back and forth for a bit.

    This may be a bit too strong for N Scale. :giggle7yc:

    I have tried one H0 magnet and it is definitely too strong. It almost holds some cars in place there.

    N or HO model freight cars should not have magnetic axles, (repeat) if you fix that problem your running qualities over permanent mag un couplers will improve dramatically.

    rare earth magnets work well with my code 80 track.

    We kept one HO car with the magnetic wheels because my nephew likes to watch the car get stuck on the magnet... :tb-biggrin:
