In trying to figure out how to use extended addresses on a factory installed decoder in a Spectrum SD45-2, i changed the address to an unknown number. To make matters worse, i can't read any CV's either. I tried resetting it with CV8, data 8 (info i read on a site for resetting to factory default for Lenz) it didn't work. I'm using a MRC Prodigy Avance 2. What else can i do?
Someone more experienced with both items, MRC and the decoder (should be a stripped down Tsunami), will set you straight, but I have a feeling the address may not have been set with CV29 properly. In the meantime, you may not even be getting programming signals to the decoder due to the MRC's power limitations in programming mode. What I would do is the following: make doubly sure no other decoder is getting power from the same track that your problem engine is on. Leave only this one engine somewhere on your main. Then, find Ops Mode programming on your system, and do a reset that way. Don't forget to revert to address 03 if you want to talk to that engine once the reset has taken place. Then, in Ops Mode, go through the procedure to address the loco, but pick one you'll remember...like the number on the number boards or cab typically. Then, when that is done, if the engine still doesn't respond to the new address, enter programming in Ops Mode and change CV 29 to a value of "34". That enables the long address in virtually every decoder made, but precludes operation in DC. If you want it to be dual mode (DCC and DC), you would set CV 29 to "38". Try that. Otherwise you may need a programming booster, or a resistor across a specific short programming track. If these things don't work, your decoder may be faulty. Good luck.
