The driver of this rig missed his turn near Billings, MT and figured he could go over the hill to rejoin the road. Apparently he did not know there were rails at the top of the rise. The truck's owner figures the rig had to be going at least 55 mph to make it to the top of the rise. The truck was stopped when the first rail jammed between the tires of the two rear axles. The third photo shows the tire tracks leading up to the embankment. According to the owner, the driver had only been in the US for a few months. (Press "1" for English?)
This is evidence that you can be a total dope and be of pretty much any nationality. Stupidity knows no national or cultural borders.
Well, this actually happened during the winter of 2007. Up in Canada. No matter where, to learn what actually happened would be interesting. Boxcab E50
Wow, that's just....wow. Dude has to have some kind of talent to even be able to pull that off! If I didn't know better I'd say somebody had to use a crane or pulleys or something for that to even happen. To quote Homer Simpson, "that's (almost) unpossible".
Isn't that one of those "oh s***" moments? Fortunately for him, no trains were coming at the time. Next time, dude, try it with a Jeep!
Unless he was forced off the road. He should be given a ton of credit for keeping it upright. We need to know the true story.
Did you see how far from the road this guy was ? He fell asleep. I must say that I'm impressed with that Freightliner . It stayed together & pulled a big hill. :tb-tongue:
I looked around a bit. Snopes shows this as indeed being in Canada. Saying it was near Brandon, Manitoba. But they have no more information. I wonder where the closest news outlet to Brandon is located? They might have something archived? Boxcab E50
Sorry Guys, I should have checked with Snopes.com before posting this, but I trusted the guy who sent it to me. Apparently the photos are real, but everything else about the event, including the description can not be verified, at least by the folks at Snopes. http://www.snopes.com/photos/accident/railroad.asp Personally I agree with Jerry, Mike, and others who think the driver fell asleep. Heck of a way to wake up, but I hope he came out of it OK. The Brandon Sun has a website (http://www.brandonsun.com/), but a search did not come up with anything, perhaps because it happened 14 months ago.
Regardless of how it happened, one thing we might know- He probably needed a shovel to clean out his drawers after the incident. Boxcab E50
No truck driver worth his or her salt is that stupid- I've seen some lulus in my life. And I respect those folks who drive truck. Looking back at it, he woulda had to have drifted off to sleep bigtime in order to go off the road like that & head up the side of the tracks. And at a pretty good clip. Hopefully no other vehicles were involved. Don't think he'll mention this on his resume.............................
I agree, I don't see how you could be that asleep! He would have been running at a pretty good clip across a lot of unpaved ground. Sounds fishy to me. I'm just glad a train didn't come along!
