Hello all. New to G scale and trying to design a track plan. I have a area approx 45x25 to work with and want to add some water features there is nothing in the yard now.

Also any Colorado G scalers out there?

    Thank You
    Paul

Fairly new myself. Where abouts?? In Longmont.
Recently joined the NCGR - Northern Colorado Garden Railroad club.

Working on getting roadbed down in garden.
Might try to do a bit more today, if it cools down a bit more!

I would esign my own track plan, What I've gone was go in to the back yard and visulize what the layout would look like in multiable aspects.

Humm! trying to think of a good example. Take some pieces of stakes and stake off the area than run highly visiable string and run it from stake to stake than go on the roof of your house take a lawn chair and a scratch pad and look at you finished product in your head with all the differant options I.E. The water section in a spot than visulize everything surrounging it than looking at it in another section and how It would affect the visuar aspect of the surrounding area.

I personally would put it on the furthest point on a curve so that you get the most visibility and with the water needing a place to go you can dead end it anywhere where's in the front it may look odd or even stupid just stopping unless you had it set up as a catchment pond type deal where's in the back you would look at it curving to no mans land and unless you went back their you wouldn't know the differance. But it really depende on the situation and the affect your looking for this is why I say get on the roof and sketch out the entire thing by head in multiple forms than once inside you can research the drawlings and possibly make conversions to all in one???

You never know that's what's great is the boggleing part of the layout especially of a grand scale.

Good luck and hope you have fun.

    Hi Paul

I have about that much room for my layout inside and it was based on the plan of my layout outside. I've been very happy with it for 8 years. Enough switching for me and a long run if you just want to watch trains.

Course you would have to lift the 'hidden track' on the left by placing it over and behind the mainline rather than under it but that might even give you some more yard space.

    Have a ball.
