I have been building some kits lately and I decided to post pictures of six different kits. What I will say is this. I am not good at building kits, but these are amazingly well designed. They fit well and peel and stick trim items are nothing short of amazing! I'd like to say thank you to Robert and MT. Great kits. I have the station to get done next and I am waiting for that water tower. The first picuter is the cattle pin minus the base. I think it looks better without it. In that same picuture is the tool shed. The second has the gas station the third has the coal tower. As always sorry if pics are blurry I took them in hurry and they don't always come out good unitil my bad eyes see them up close.
Joe, The kits look great! I just bought the loading ramp. Haven't put it together yet. Did you paint yours? Or stain it? Or chalk it? I took a look at the surface, and I'm thinking that it wouldn't be too hard to prime it and paint it to look like concrete as well -- it will just take a few coats to cover up the small wood grain. Thanks for sharing. Russ Meier Milwaukee, WI MILW, UP, and CP in Z (Go CP!)
Wow Joe! You have have built as many of my kits as I have! I can't believe I am seeing so many of them in one posting! Great job!
Russ I did not paint or weather the ramp or the cattle pin, I think the wood looks good as it is. The peel and stick make the ramp a great one to start with. Obviously I painted the gas station, coal loader and the tool shed. I might advise that if you buy these kits to paint with markers. I really like the look and the lack of mess, plus it lets the laser detail show better. Robert, I have to say thanks for making these kits they really go together well compared to others. That train station is waiting. I am trying to decide if I am going to paint it different colors or go with the yellow. Hmmmmmm......
Joe, Do you have a recommended marker set? What brand did you use? Did you get them at hobby stores or at Michael's Crafts, etc.? Thanks for the insight into this. Not everything needs -- or should be -- airbrushed! Russ
Russ beleive it or not the last couple of structure I used crayola markers. Here is why I like them, they are not that dark and it shows the laser cuts well. Plus sometimes paint is just too thick and hard to work with. If you want to make the color darker run the marker over it a few times to change the shade. For the white I used a paint pen. other than that, all crayola.
Hello JoeS, I just wanted to clarify that I designed 50% of the Nail Brothers Salvage Big Box Kit with Robert Ray. It is both our combined Kit I am proud to say. Thank you for the compliments. As far as the MT kits I helped build every kit except the coal loader and water tower. Thank You again, My name is Chris Tatarian
Robert was passing these out at the Anaheim NTS / NMRA show a few weeks ago. If this is from his new laser we are in for some nice kits. Some of the laser cutting on this are very thin cuts and some fine detail such as the slots for the wall tabs. ....don a
Yes, I have to say that Chris has helped me extensively over the past year's kit releases. In fact it has been his drive that has made possible most of the kits released! In fact, Chris and I have almost completed design of out second BAZ Models Big Box Kit. It's still a secret, but it will be complimentary to Nail Brothers, and about the same size. Lots of great new details too! The Fireworks stand was something I threw together to fill a spot on my Orbit Drive-In module, and I made 50 of them to pass out at the NTS. I did not have time to write instructions, but figured it is small enough to figure out without them. It's something that is suitable as a flower stand, fruit stand, firework stand or roadside tourist trap.
Wow Joe! you really did it! That is the hardest kit to build so far! The windows are the hardest. The new laser does a better job at cutting out those windows. You did great!
Here is an up date to this thread. First the water tower. Then AJ slick Then the Co-op and a few more of the station with a platform added and some parking
Nice work Joe, it looks like you have been having lots of fun! I hope you saved some room on your layout because we are working on another big box kit!
