Saturday we did some back to school shopping and got the kids’ haircut. Unfortunately the stylist who worked on my daughter’s hair did what I can only call a hack job on it. It was uneven and looked like a blind person cut. We went back on Sunday and another stylist redid it. While it is not perfect it does look better.

I also messed up my weekend schedule. I thought I had a 50th birthday party to attend. Turns out it is next weekend.

We spent a part of yesterday at Tyler Arboretum viewing their tree house exhibit. These were not ordinary tree houses. Some of them were not even in the trees. Later in the evening we did some yard work.

Of course all of this running around meant that I got no modeling done.

We went to a friend's house on Sunday afternoon for an informal operating session. We each got a couple of locomotives to run with instructions to just drive them around the mainline and pick up and drop off any cars we wanted to. The whole point of the session was to find the problem spots so they could be worked on.

While we drove trains around and had fun switching things out, our host spent some time soldering feeders in some trouble spots. We found a few cars that need work and fixed a couple of low coupler hoses.

    Monday

Monday has arrived for the Monday thru Friday crowd. Being retired everyday is Saturday.
Got some photos of the empty grain train Saturday and the local yesterday.
Did some running on the layout in the basement. The Alco RS32's I bought a while back needed some running.
A sunny morning here and it is supposed to get to 90F this afternoon. Summer has been just about perfect with only a few real hot days.

I was able to fine tune a GP30 Cotton Belt (Kato classic) with a TCS CN-GP decoder installed. Its a bit noisey but it pulls well.
I also took my Concor GS4 Daylighters tender apart, cleaned it, and after re-assembly it programmed and ran well. It had pulling issues and pick-up issues, it just sucked. I added about 1/4 oz of wieght to it and it now pulls 5 cars with no wheel slip which was my goal.
I spent a little time re-thinking my train order cards so was able to reprint those and add car cards for some new cars. If I just had some more staging I could have a passenger train set up for each dirrection( they only get run occasionally).
    :tb-tongue:

I had lots of fun weathering this Atlas covered hopper to look like the ones I see in the bauxite trains here in Jamaica.

The model below when completed will carry the MoPac colours. It is my first smokey valley kit. The cab is by cannon & company. The cab is the L shaped window version. Not protypical but it will do for my layout. The bell is also different too. I have another on the way so I'll make good on that unit.

Model railroad fun straight. I participated at the FREMO meeting in Heinsberg with my station Naumburg . And like you can see, I've made quite a few pictures.
